Job overview

William Perkin CE High School, a SIAMS and Ofsted Outstanding school, is part of the Twyford Trust. This is an exciting time for the Trust as William Perkin opens its new sixth form and we welcome our fourth school, Ada Lovelace, not only into the Trust but also into our building. We are therefore looking for a 2 i/c RE to join our growing department as we look to launch these two new phases in our development. The new post-holder will fulfil the role of HOD maternity cover from February 2019, an excellent opportunity for professional development in leading a department, placing the successful candidate in a strong position to apply to lead the Ada Lovelace RE department when the school moves to its new site in 2020.

RE is a core subject at William Perkin, forming a foundational part of our students’ education across all Key Stages. All students at KS4 study for GCSE RE (AQA) and our developing Sixth Form provides opportunity for A Level (OCR) and wider RE provision. The post-holder will be joining an innovative, ambitious and supportive RE department that works collaboratively to create a curriculum that inspires, challenges and nurtures students, using ambitious outcomes, and leading to thorough subject knowledge and sustained progress.

The success of the RE department is demonstrated through excellent RE results throughout the school including outstanding results in our first year of GCSE:

  • 9% of all students achieved a grade 9
  • 48% of all students achieved grades 7-9
  • 81% of all students achieved grades 5-9

In addition to delivering outstanding learning in a core subject, the RE department also has close links with the Chaplaincy, SMSC and Wider Learning teams within the school – offering further opportunities for the post-holder to impact wider school life in diverse and meaningful ways.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with the drive to contribute to a team committed to achieving outstanding results for all students irrespective of ability. S/he will be enthused by the prospect of maintaining a student learning culture within the department which is both engaging and aspirational.

William Perkin Church of England High School opened as a Free School in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students, and now has six year groups (7 - 12) totalling almost 1,000 students in Year 7 – 11 and around 160 students in Year 12. The school is founded on the successful systems and approaches of Twyford CE High School, with the principle difference that it is a distinctively Christian school with open admission criteria. The school is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016) and is oversubscribed on first choice applicants. The Twyford Trust’s fourth school – Ada Lovelace CE High School – opened in September 2018 and is temporarily based in additional accommodation at the William Perkin site until its own new building opens in September 2020. Ada Lovelace currently has 125 students in Year 7.

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10 year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest attaining Trust in the UK. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum from Yr 7 –Yr 13 which has been devised by staff within the four schools and we have a thriving 6th form co-ordinated across 3 of the school sites. The Trust is also the hub of Teach West London and prides itself on high quality, peer-led CPD within a dynamic culture of self-improvement.
