Our Maths department

Our Maths curriculum has been designed with two compatible principles in mind: mastery and the science of learning. We believe that all of our students can be successful mathematicians; the ultimate aim is for our students to be able to demonstrate mathematical thinking and problem solving. To do so, they require the necessary fluency in important facts, procedures and concepts, alongside rich experiences in reasoning mathematically, to make progress when solving unfamiliar problems. KS3 pupils are placed into upper and lower groups which retains an element of mixed ability, and then set for KS4 (Edexcel GCSE).

The department has a range of experience and expertise; we are united as passionate mathematicians who work hard to implement an innovative curriculum with high expectations. We enjoy discussions about subject-specific pedagogy, sharing ideas and resources. Within our brand new facility, we have a department office and maths IT suite, and our classrooms are equipped with an interactive whiteboard, visualiser, mini whiteboards, manipulatives and new textbooks.

As an evolving school and department, there is plenty of scope for you to add your own contributions and lead on some developments. Our dedicated maths team have supported students after school with Maths Clinics and we would love for you to enhance our extra-curricular offerings.
