Job overview
Outwood Academy Valley is a popular and over-subscribed school at the heart of its vibrant community in Worksop, a town which is rich in history and culture with a historic market centre, mining heritage and growing commuter links for nearby cities, including Sheffield. Worksop has a strong industrial history, particularly in coal mining. Though the mines are no longer operational, the town retains a proud connection to this heritage. Worksop is often referred to as the "Gateway to the Dukeries," a term that originates from its proximity to a cluster of ducal estates. These include Clumber Park, Welbeck Abbey, Thoresby Hall, and Worksop Manor. Outwood Academy Valley has 1,500 students aged 11 to 16 and shares a Post-16 Centre, which has 500 students, with Outwood Academy Portland. The Post-16 Centre is just a two-minute walk from the school. Both sites have excellent facilities providing a bright and motivational learning and working environment. We are a welcoming and supportive academy with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child.
Since joining the Outwood Family in 2012, as well as within the Outwood family of schools, the academy has also been consistently among the top schools for Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and South Yorkshire for GCSE results, including English and Maths. Along with strong results and attainment levels, students make above-average progress.
We are passionate about teaching and learning and committed to developing all staff and leaders. The in-house learning and performance CPD is highly valued by all staff, and there are many opportunities to access CPD across academies within the Trust, as well as through the National Institute of Teaching. Ofsted noted that the support provided for teachers’ development is "strong and wide-ranging".
We believe that learning should be both enjoyable and enriching, allowing students to make exceptional progress. We are innovators with a knowledge-rich curriculum designed to personalise learning for every student, helping them to reach their potential. With a holistic view of education, we value vocational, practical, creative and academic excellence equally, creating an environment where every student can shine. Our Performing Arts Department excels year on year producing, choreographing and performing full shows. From backstage to starring roles, lighting and sound to scenery, the performances are out of this world and are always heavily supported by both staff and students and their families.
We are constantly looking to improve teaching and learning. Help to take us to the next level.
We have gained numerous awards as a school, and we are proud to have been awarded the Quality in Careers Standard for our careers education, information, advice and guidance provision.
Outwood Academy Valley is looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational Second in Faculty to join our Computer Science and Business Studies department. This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people. Our single goal is ‘Students First’, and you will be joining a strong team of professionals working to this sole aim. As second in faculty with responsibility for Computer Science, this post attracts a TLR of £3,391.
The Computer Science and Business Faculty consists of four members of staff: two specialist Business teachers and two specialist Computer Science teachers. The trust also has a Director of Computer Science to offer support, advice and resources when needed. Computer Science is taught one hour per week at KS3. We currently offer OCR GCSE Computer Science at KS4. We share the teaching of Computer Science and IT at A level with Outwood Academy Portland, our sister school, where we currently have a total of three groups.
