Job overview

We are delighted to be making an appointment for the position of second in mathematics for our new 11-18 academy in North Yorkshire.

Our academies offer a high quality of education for our students and excellent career progression and training for staff. Our driving ambition is Students First: Raising Standards and Transforming Lives.

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and highly effective second in department who loves mathematics and has a passion to develop this in others. This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and inspiring subject specialist.

Outwood Grange Academies Trust is at the forefront of maths education, both in terms of ensuring students are taught maths for deep understanding and in enabling every student to leave school with a maths qualification that opens doors for them. As well as developing a curriculum that allows for this we have also created a training and support programme for teachers to enable them to feel confident in facilitating this for all students.

Our Executive Director of Maths, Kathryn Greenhalgh, leads Yorkshire and the Humber MathsHub. This, as well as her work with the DfE, means that OGAT maths departments are helping to inform the development and mould the landscape of mathematics both regionally and nationally.

We have a great training package for teachers new to the Trust from NQTs through to HODs which includes: Teaching for Mastery; Open Classroom events; Maths Matters; TSST; Mathematical Thinking in the new GCSE; weekly professional development time and further programmes free through the Outwood Institute of Education. We invest in you so you invest in our students.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic practitioner to lead on identified roles within the department and support the Head of Department; the successful applicant will be responsible for leading and teaching mathematics across all key stages and must be prepared to teach GCSE, with a desire to teach A Level. You should possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference and have a firm love of your subject and a desire to support our young people to reach their full potential.

Applications are invited for those with leadership potential or who are keen to move into this role. Our Trust provides excellent staff development and departments are well supported by the expert guidance of our Subject Directors who work across our academies.

Outward Grange Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments will be subject to a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.

The new Academy will benefit from being part of the Outwood Family of Schools and you will be joining a highly innovative, inspirational and successful organisation. The Trust guarantees every member of staff CPD and development opportunities and various routes for career progression.

We welcome any requests from candidates wishing to visit the Academy.

For further information and to apply, please go to: www.outwood.com > Vacancies. Alternatively, you can contact Susan Dean – HR Outwood Grange Academies Trust directly by email s.dean@outwood.com or telephone 01924204350 ext. 242.

Closing date: 20 November 2017.

Interview date: 23 November 2017.
