Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, inspirational linguist to work within the MFL Learning Area, to support the Learning Area Coordinator as we seek to foster a love of languages within our students across the Academy. Currently all students study French at KS3. Although an increasing number of students are opting to learn a language at KS4, we would like to increase their desire to study a modern foreign language and we are exploring the option of introducing Spanish into our curriculum. This appointment will possibly steer that decision somewhat.

We are therefore seeking to appoint either a teacher of French, or a teacher who can teach both French and Spanish, as the second in department. This person may have leadership experience, or is seeking to develop this. We are blessed to have an innovative, dynamic and experienced Curriculum Leader, who will mentor and support the person appointed. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating schemes of learning and assessments, under the guidance of the Learning Area Coordinator, along with the resources to deliver French, and if they have the specialism, Spanish. They must be focused, resilient, good humoured and have a deep-rooted desire to see all of our learners succeed.

St Wilfrid’s Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Candidates will be shortlisted against the person specification for the post.

About St Wilfrid's Church of England Academy

ABOUT ST WILFRID'S C OF E ACADEMY

St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy provides a faith-led education for 11 to 18 year olds serving the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen and parts of Pennine Lancashire. We seek to provide an excellent education based upon a strong Christian foundation, as we develop all who work, learn and serve in our community. We benefit from purpose-built accommodation with excellent facilities. All in all, it is a wonderful place to work and learn. Visitors to St Wilfrid’s comment on the calm and purposeful environment, the friendly nature of our students and the welcoming nature of our staff.

We have a reputation for high academic standards. As a comprehensive school, we pride ourselves on providing teaching and learning which engages all students. The recent SIAMS inspector stated:

“Almost everyone describes the academy as being ‘one big family’ where all care for and help one another. This is understood to be the outworking of Christian values and teachings which underpin excellent behaviour and relationships. Students recognise in teachers a commitment to serve which for many is an aspect of their Christian faith. This prompts them to strive to provide the best and most supportive opportunities for all students. The result is exemplary academic and pastoral support which enables students to make good progress, attain excellent results and develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally (SMSC 2016).”

MISSION STATEMENT

“St Wilfrid’s Church of England Academy sees education as an integral  part of the mission of the Church to proclaim God as Creator, Christ as Redeemer and the Holy Spirit as Inspirer of all that is good in human living.  The main purpose of the school is to provide an excellent education, both academic and social, in a Christian context, to enable its students to grow up to take their full part as citizens of this world and the next.”
