About Oulder Hill Community School and Language College

Located in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, Oulder Hill Community School is a co-educational secondary school. With around 1200 pupils aged 11-16, Oulder Hill is noticeably larger than the average school of its type, and covers a large and diverse catchment area, a fact reflected in its student intake. The school merged with another local secondary school, specialising in children with learning disabilities, in 2003. This coincided with a significant redevelopment and modernisation of the school site, meaning that Oulder Hill can now boast of a wide range of modern teaching and recreational facilities. Although Oulder Hill had previously has a sixth form, this was closed in 2010.

Values and Vision

Oulder Hill Community School has high expectations of its students, with regards to behaviour and work ethic. The school works hard to fulfil its comprehensive ethos, ensuring that each student has access to appropriate teaching and support regardless of academic ability or personal background. Oulder Hill also takes great pride in the diversity of its student body. The school also seeks to ensure the proper personal development of its pupils, in terms of emotional and social intelligence, as well as making them aware of the options available to them when they leave school.

Ofsted

“The quality of teaching is good. This judgement is supported by the school’s records of lesson observations, the substantial number of lessons observed during the inspection and by the views of parents. Evidence from joint observations shows that judgements about teaching, made by inspectors and by school leaders, match closely.”
