This is a great opportunity to join a highly successful school as part of a friendly and very hard working department. Established as a brand new school in 2002, we moved into our award-winning £30 million accommodation in 2005.  The school is located within easy reach of central London via the District Line and yet just minutes by car from the Essex countryside.

In May 2013, Ofsted described the school as good with outstanding leadership and governance. They stated that JRCS offers “an exceptionally caring and challenging education to enable all its students to ‘ACHIEVE’.” The report also stated that the promotion of students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding and takes into account students’ equality of opportunity. OFSTED also said that “teaching in the sixth form is consistently good or better”. The school is highly over-subscribed with well over 1,100 expressions of preference for the 300 spaces available in Year 7 for next year. This summer we achieved our highest ever KS5 results and over 57% of our Year 11 students achieved A*-C grades in English and Maths. The results achieved by academic and vocational Sixth Form students remained significantly above national averages.

Geography is a subject growing in popularity at JRCS. Currently we have over 150 students study the GCSE course in Years 10 and 11. The department is committed to learning outside of the classroom and runs educational visits in all key stages;  these have included trips to Walton on the Naze and Trewern (an outdoor education centre on the Welsh borders). The department is a friendly, close-knit team; our work is built upon the principles of enthusiasm, challenge and achievement and we would warmly welcome a new member of staff who subscribes to those values. Candidates should be prepared to teach across all key stages. The department is fully staffed with a highly committed and effective team based in a suite of dedicated rooms, all equipped with projectors and visualisers.

At The Jo Richardson Community School we are committed to reaching the highest standards in everything we do. Central to our work is the motto ‘Success For All’ which underpins our belief that every individual has the opportunity to gain high quality academic qualifications. These enable students to progress to college, university or a good job when they leave us. The curriculum we offer provides both a wide range of traditional academic subjects as well as more practical work-related courses.

We also want our students to develop opportunities to succeed outside the classroom. Our extra-curricular provision provides a range of opportunities for achievement that will develop confidence and build self-esteem. Our student council also plays an important role within the school, and is just one example of how we seek to develop our students’ leadership skills.

None of this can be achieved, however, if the ethos isn’t right. We believe it is our responsibility to make sure students feel happy and secure at school. We do not tolerate any disruptive behaviour that has an effect upon the progress of others.

We operate a bullying and behaviour policy based on zero tolerance. In the rare event that a student is involved in bullying or in disrupting lessons they are automatically excluded from school and not allowed back into circulation until we are confident that problems will not recur. We make no apology for the hard line we take in this respect – students need to know they can come to school free from the fear of intimidation, and where their lessons will be focused on achieving academic success.
