We are looking to appoint an outstanding Second in Maths to join our expanding Mathematics department. This is an exciting time to join our team.

 

The department are working towards adopting a mastery curriculum and are currently working alongside the Maths Hub and specialist mastery leads. This is having a positive impact on student engagement and progress. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and have excellent professional development opportunities both in Maths specialisms and teaching pedagogy. Our Maths team is currently made up of 12 staff, including a full time Maths Learning Support Assistant, who work collaboratively and are supportive of one another’s professional development. We are looking to appoint an outstanding Second in Mathematics to assist in leading an enthusiastic and aspirational team. The successful candidate will be passionate about their subject and an outstanding classroom practitioner with a track record of supporting students effectively to ensure that they make excellent progress and develop a deep understanding of the role Maths plays in everyday life. The Department have recently reviewed the mathematics curriculum and have adopted a mastery approach.


JOB DESCRIPTION

 Assistant Curriculum Leader

 Jobholder reports to          Curriculum Leader

 

Basic Job Purpose              

To work alongside the Curriculum Leader for Mathematics to raise standards and drive progress in the department. The Assistant Curriculum Leader will support the Curriculum Leader with curriculum developments, ensuring high quality teaching and learning and in supporting the Maths team to be experts in their field. To support the Curriculum Leader in identifying key areas for development and having a strategic approach towards tackling any emerging issues. The successful candidate will lead on assessment, including the role of homework. The post holder would also be responsible for coordinating any necessary interventions to support progress. The post holder contribute to the vision, ethos and development of the school, having high expectations of themselves and others.

 

Main responsibilities

                                                                                                                                                          

Curriculum

·        Support in the continuous review of the curriculum to ensure that it is relevant to and support the mastery approach adopted by the department and that it meets the needs of all pupils. Ensuring that the requirements of the National Curriculum are met.

·        To review the impact of the curriculum and to ensure that knowledge and skills are made explicit to students so that they can develop as mathematicians.

·        To ensure that appropriate homework is in place to support the mastery approach.

·        To attend Curriculum Leaders meeting to represent the Mathematics department.

 

Teaching and Learning

·        Ensuring that the highest quality of teaching and learning is undertaken within the classroom so that all studetns make progress and develop their knowledge and understanding of Mathematics.

·        Support the Mathematics team to engage in whole school Teaching and Learning foci, such as knowledge retention and retrieval

  • Manage and organise department resources to ensure efficient access and links to current schemes of work.

·        Lead other members of the curriculum area on the continual development of collaborative writing of units of work to maximise student engagement and attainment.

 

Student Tracking, Assessment and Intervention

  • Establish and maintain appropriate student data tracking systems to efficiently track student effort, attainment and progress towards targets.
  • Co-ordinate and organise appropriate assessment materials in line with the school assessment policy.
  • Ensure consistent and timely delivery of appropriate internal assessments within the curriculum area.
  • Ensure staff deliver high quality feedback to students to support learning.
  • Use assessment data to identify groups and individual students that are under-achieving, to inform necessary intervention strategies.
  • Lead department members to deliver appropriate intervention strategies for under-achieving groups or individuals, aiming to raise attainment and ensure maximum levels of student progress.
  • Attend the KS3 Raising Standards Leads fortnightly meeting, a coordinated whole school approach to improving outcomes.
  • Liaise with the Curriculum Leader regarding intervention strategies implemented with department members.
  • Liaise with SENCO to ensure appropriate provision of support for students with special educational needs.
