We are seeking to appoint an exceptional and inspirational Science teacher to take the next step in their career and become the Second in Department for our talented and motivated Science department.  The purpose of the post of Second in Department is to provide effective support for the Head of Department with a view to raising standards.  

This is a fantastic opportunity for a well-qualified Science teacher who will be capable of inspiring students through their passion for the subject and has an excitement and drive for teaching and learning as well as a desire to make a difference to student achievement.

We are looking to appoint a colleague who shares our commitment to high standards of professionalism and academic achievement for every one of our students and who will go the extra mile to help them achieve excellence.  

The successful candidate will be passionate about the teaching of Science and able to lead and inspire others to achieve success.  They will be an excellent classroom practitioner with an understanding of high quality teaching and learning with an excellent subject knowledge and be comfortable overseeing Science up to Key Stage 4.

Hylands School is a mixed secondary school, with a small sixth form, for pupils aged 11-18. Located in Chelmsford, Essex, it converted to an academy in 2011 and is part of the Kemnal Academies Trust.

Hylands School’s sixth form provides students with opportunities to study a range of A-levels and BTECs, and to join a vibrant community where taking on new responsibilities contributes to social and personal development.

In 2016, Hylands School was placed in the top 100 schools for sustained improvement. Rising GCSE results in 2014 and 2015 were achieved through a culture of determination and resilience among all the staff and students. The school aims to continue this trend onwards and upwards.
