Job overview

The International English School of Castellón is currently recruiting for a teacher of science to join our successful team.  The postholder will be responsible for guiding our students through KS3 science and IGCSE/A level science courses, depending on subject specialism.   You will join a team of 3 other science teachers.

This is an interesting time to join our growing school as we continue to adapt to the 'new normal' facing education resulting from the Covid-19 situation.  Our school community has reacted marvellously to the pressures placed on us over the last two years. We prioritise pupil and staff safety and have strategically planned to ensure that we build on the new skills that we have developed, whilst maintaining our ability to respond proactively and efficiently to the constantly changing world around us.

Our school is a friendly and popular independent British school located on the Mediterranean coast, north of Valencia. Castellón is a small, safe city with a wonderful coastline, excellent climate and good access to rail networks and airports.

We provide an education based on the 'British curriculum' to children from one to eighteen years of age. 88% of our children are Spanish and they experience a real immersion in English in school,  learning English language in the same way as we acquire our own mother tongue.

The secondary curriculum is based on the National Curriculum in KS3 and Cambridge (CAIE) IGCSE and A level programmes in KS4 and KS5. We prepare pupils for external examinations allowing access to universities in Spain, the UK and other countries.

We currently run IGCSE Coordinated Sciences and at A level we offer Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Marine Science. We have considerable flexibility in our science team meaning that to a certain extent the teaching responsibilities can be designed around the skillset of the new post holder, although interest in teaching or sharing the teaching of Biology and Marine Science would be advantageous for this position.

We are proud to offer our pupils a great variety of opportunities as part of their school curriculum. These experiences support both their emotional and academic growth. Children develop their individual skills and qualities in a caring environment where they are encouraged to flourish through personal reflection, challenge and support. We help, guide and encourage our pupils to develop confidence and self-discipline. The role of the teacher in our school is therefore much more than just teaching a subject, it involves enthusing, inspiring and caring for each child.

If you are a confident, caring teacher who believes in dialogue, positivity, kindness and collegiality, then we encourage you to explore this opportunity in our school.

We are very proud to be one of seven schools in Spain belonging to the International Education Partnership (IEP), a subsidiary of IES Holdings II which also owns the Internationella Engelska Skolan (IES) group. Our IES mother company is the largest and most successful schools group in Sweden.

Further information can be found on our school website www.iepgroupcastellon.com and in the downloadable application pack, which has information about the school, conditions and the local area.

Please apply using the TES application form, although CVs and covering letters are welcome. Applicants should be aware that we may begin shortlisting prior to the closing date.

IEP and its schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children  and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Background checks will be required.

About International English School of Castellon

The International English School of Castellón opened in July 2009 and is part of the well-established International Education Partnership group. Students are able to join our pre-school at age 1 or as soon as they can walk and follow a bilingual programme until the age of three, at which point they follow the English National Curriculum. In Key Stage 4 our students are prepared for IGCSE examinations which can be validated to obtain the Spanish Secondary Certificate of Education. Students who continue into Key Stage 5 can study ‘AS’ and ‘A’ levels as well as preparing the Spanish examinations.

Located on the outskirts of the city of Castellón, the purpose built school includes an outdoor 20 metre swimming pool, auditorium, multi-court areas, two ICT suites, science laboratories and library.

Lessons are taught by fully qualified native teachers, all of whom are dedicated to achieving the best possible results for every student. In addition to the teaching staff, the school has support assistants, a psychologist, chef, and ICT technician.

The school operates a positive ethos policy, which includes regular reinforcement of good behaviour and acknowledgement of success. This is effective in developing a collective responsibility for each other and for the environment of the school. The development of the whole child is of great importance. All students are regarded as individuals and are encouraged to reach their full potential irrespective of academic ability, social background or race. In doing so, the aim is to nurture and develop happy, confident, motivated and self-disciplined children who are considerate, tolerant and sensitive to the needs of others.
