Job overview

L.E.A.D. Academy Trust is an inspiring and influential group of 25 academies across eight Local Authorities in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire. As part of our continued investment in delivering our ambition to transform schools in challenging communities, we are seeking to appoint a Secondary Director of Schools, to drive school improvement and raise standards across our 3 Secondary academies.

This role presents an unrivalled opportunity for an experienced and established school leader to work collaboratively with our academy leadership teams. The role involves designing and delivering a school improvement strategy which provides challenge and support, developing high performing teams, and embedding sustainable improvement which will lead to outstanding opportunities and outcomes for all pupils.

Our Directors of Schools understand the power of partnership and collaboration, and draw on their experience, and track record of school improvement to motivate and inspire others. They have the professional credibility of having delivered improved performance in both academic outcomes, and Ofsted judgements, in schools which they have led.

The successful candidate will be able to:

  • Articulate a clear vision for school improvement with a deep understanding of Secondary provision.
  • Translate and embed strategies for improvement across our Secondary academies, all of which have their own distinct identity and community.
  • Embed an ethos of high expectations by inspiring leadership at all levels.
  • Create a culture of collaboration by further developing networks across the Trust as well as actively participating in networks and exploring opportunities to engage and work with other organisations for the benefit of our academies.
  • Create a climate where all staff and all students have the highest of expectations and belief that opportunity and excellence should be equitable for everyone.

Lead - to show the way; to be first or foremost

Empower - to give power to; to enable

Achieve - to accomplish; to get or attain by effort

Drive - to cause and guide progress; to impel forward

Our vision is that through outstanding leadership we will provide the highest quality education to enable every pupil to realise their full potential.

Of course, every good school aspires to this aim, so what makes us different?

We passionately believe in the power of partnership working as a catalyst for ensuring more children receive an exceptional education.  Our member schools know the transformational impact it can have from experience.

At the same time, we recognise the importance of autonomy.  Every school has its own context and challenges.  This is why we encourage our member schools to lead and manage in a way that preserves their individual identity and responds to the specific needs of their children and community.

The combination of autonomy and collaboration across key areas of leadership and management, underpinned by shared vision, values and best practice is what makes the L.E.A.D. Academy Trust unique.

We are also strengthened by the support, guidance and wide-ranging skills of our experienced board of trustees.

The acronym L.E.A.D. embodies the four core principles at the heart of the Trust: strong leadership at every level; empowering every child to aim high; giving every child the opportunity to achieve and constantly driving for improvement.

Our innovative model is already attracting widespread attention from schools which share our vision and values and want to join us in finding new ways of giving their children the best possible education.
