Job overview

St George’s School seeks a well-qualified professional to teach English in the secondary school, to begin August 2018

The School

Having opened in September 2013, St George’s School Munich has rapidly developed into a thriving community of around 300 pupils and 35 teachers. The school continues to grow, and as the school matures we expect to reach 800 pupils. The school’s ethos of combining an enriching curriculum with family orientated care makes the school a warm and engaging place to work and learn.

In September 2017, the school embarked on an exciting phase of its development, as it moved to a new, purpose-built campus located in the city. These premises provide first-class educational facilities for all ages and subject areas.

The National Curriculum is taught throughout the school and we offer IGCSE qualifications to pupils in our Upper School. The school is currently undergoing IB accreditation, and we intend to start teaching the IB Diploma Programme in September 2018.

One of a group of three schools located across Germany, St George’s offers the successful applicant an exciting range of opportunities for professional development and growth across the school group.

The Location

Located on a campus in the vibrant residential district of Schwabing, St George’s School is well connected to the city centre and the greater Munich metropolitan area. The English Garden and Olympic Park both lie a short distance from the school.

Germany’s third largest city, and the capital of the state of Bavaria, Munich is a dynamic and vibrant cultural centre, with a large and diverse international community. Situated on the northern edge of the Alps, Munich offers a high standard of living, as well as numerous opportunities for travel and outdoor pursuits. It is a beautiful and forward looking city where work, rest and play are perfectly balanced.

Munich airport is located 30km from the school, with many daily flights to the UK, and high speed rail services connect Munich to a wide range of European destinations. The city also provides an extensive transport system in all areas at affordable prices.

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a qualified English Teacher to work within our team of secondary teachers.

The successful applicant will be a dynamic teacher with experience of enabling pupils to achieve their potential. We are looking for the right balance between experience, enthusiasm and a passion for teaching that will inspire our pupils.

The secondary department currently consists of Years 7 to 11. Over the next two years, the school will grow to include Sixth Form. Pupils follow the National Curriculum and complete IGCSE examinations. We are currently undergoing accreditation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. English will be offered at both Standard and Higher Level. Familiarity with the British education system is therefore a prerequisite. Experience of IB teaching is preferred, but not required.

Given the growing and developing nature of the school, flexibility and the desire to support other team members is a prerequisite. A strong desire to contribute to the rich pastoral and extra-curricular life of the school will also be an advantage.

Please note that a teaching degree or post-graduate diploma (B.Ed, M.Ed, PGCE or equivalent) is required for this role. Unqualified teachers, or those only holding TEFL or ESOL qualifications, will not be considered.
