Situated in Melbourne’s South Eastern suburbs, Adass Israel School is an independent private school in Elsternwick that is a member school of ISV (Independent Schools Victoria).  With three campuses in a close vicinity, the school operates within the framework of a Jewish Orthodox school and as such, Teachers and Trainers are required to respect and support the ethos of the School, in particular staff must adhere to the Dress Code.

The Secondary Girls’ campus is seeking an English/Humanities teacher for Years 7 – 10 to join their General Studies team.  We are looking for a dedicated teacher who is able to implement the Victorian curriculum through engaging teaching and assessment practices.

In this role you will work with a welcoming and supportive team, who are committed to helping students reach their potential, developing skills to pursue various options following their schooling.  You will be flexible and motivated to educate your students and show demonstrated ability as a successful classroom teacher.

• Interpersonal skills appropriate to teaching Secondary.

• Demonstrated strong and effective communication with students, parents and staff

• An understanding and sensitivity to the religious and cultural values of the Adass Israel community.

• A commitment to child safety, well-being and protection 

Duties include:

• Deliver components of the English and Humanities curriculum to Secondary students

• Monitor, assess and report on student progress

• Prepare and maintain appropriate documentation pertaining to the delivery and assessment of the English and Humanities curriculum 

• Provide input to the ongoing review of the curriculum

• Participate in quality assurance programs as required

• Maintain a duty of care in the classroom.  This includes issues of discipline, students' safety, well-being and protection and WHS

• Other duties as required by your Supervisor

Adass Israel School is an independent, all through, Jewish school with three campuses’ in Victoria catering primarily for members of the Adass Israel Community in Melbourne. The School provides a general education from Prep to Year 12 for over 200 girls enrolled in the The Girls' Campus in Elsternwick.

The Boys' Campus (Prep to Year 8) is also located at Elsternwick and the Senior Boys' Campus at Ripponlea. The school was established in the late 1940s as a preschool, afternoon and Sunday school.

Facilities

There has been extensive infrastructure development under various Australian Government funding initiatives to construct of a Multipurpose Hall, four new classrooms, a Hospitality Trade Training Centre, arts and crafts facilities, a Science laboratory and extensive security works.

Curriculum

In the Junior Secondary, the curriculum follows the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and is supplemented by a number of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. The Senior Secondary School programs are conducted through Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). 

Throughout their school life, student involvement in community activities is strongly encouraged and facilitated.

The philosophy and policies of the Adass Israel School are sourced in the traditions, values and practice of Orthodox Judaism. The School is segregated on the basis of gender. For religious reasons, co-education is unacceptable within the school community. 

The school aims to provide pathways to further education and employment and hopes to produce graduates who are ‘informed, thinking, committed and contributing members of the community imbued with Orthodox Jewish values and who conduct themselves in the Orthodox Jewish lifestyle.’
