Job overview

Job responsibilities:

  • Promote acceptance and inclusion of students with SEN in the classroom and in all areas of school life.
  • Assist students on an individual or small group basis in specific learning areas, undthe direction of the Head of Learning Support, Deputy Heads and subject teachers.
  • Collaborate subject teachers in lesson planning, differentiation and in the preparation of student resources.
  • Provide push-ins support for caseload of SEN students in mainstream classrooms
  • Assist with the communication between students and teachers, particularly the interpretation of instructions.
  • Provide basic physical and emotional care for students.
  • Participate in team meetings and Continuing Professional Development courses.
  • Assist with the supervision of students in the school grounds, at camps, on excursions, in sporting activities, therapy activities and life skills.
  • Observe students and draw the attention of the teacher to them where necessary.
  • Participate in the monitoring and evaluation of programs and evaluation of individual student involvement and achievement.
  • Keep a documented record of student progress/observations and communicate case notes to the Learning Support team.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, parents and colleagues to ensure good communication and effective working practices.
  • Action other duties as directed by the Head of Learning Support, Vice Principal or Principal

Requirements for the Learning Support Teaching Assistant:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (preferably in Education or a relevant area)
  • Minimum of two years’ experience of working with students with SEN
  • Ability to build rapport with students aged 11-18
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
