The British School of Guangzhou

The British School of Guangzhou (BSG) is the largest international school in Guangzhou. Established in 2005 for children aged 1-18, the school is located on the shores of the beautiful South Lake and is widely recognised for academic excellence leading to successful entry into some of the world’s top universities. As part of Nord Anglia Education’s global family of premium schools, BSG accepts international students only and enjoys a unique collaboration with The Juilliard School, New York and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). About The Secondary School

The Secondary School is dynamic, ambitious and rapidly growing! We currently have 350 students housed in a newly constructed building situated in a beautiful lakeside setting. Being personally, academically and socially ambitious, our students are an absolute delight and have a thirst for learning. They are taught by highly-skilled specialist teachers, as well having access to an incredible range of enrichment opportunities. As a consequence, our students flourish and excel on every level, from sporting and artistic achievement to stunning examination success:

• A Level – first four cohorts have all achieved 50%+ A*/A.
  ‘Best in China’ awards from CIE for last three years.
  ‘Best in NAE’ award 2016 & 2017.
• IGCSE – first four cohorts have achieved an average 60% A*/A.

About the role

The Maths Department is one of the most successful within the school. At Key Stage 3 all students follow a challenging programme of study, which then leads on to:

• Key Stage 4, students follow the Edexcel Specification which focuses on: Number, Algebra Graphs, Shape and Space, and Handling Data. Some students sit their examinations at the end of Year 10. In 2017, one of our students scored the highest IGCSE mark in the world!
• In Key stage 5, students can opt to follow Maths and/or Further Maths, with Edexcel. Nearly all students choose one of these options and many going on to maths-based degrees. 

There are currently six members of the Maths Department and the team share a dedicated office with the English Team.
