Job Summary:

 

To teach students English across Key Stage 3 who are in an SEMH provision, following the National Curriculum.

To take responsibility for planning and teaching of the primary curriculum with a focus on English, reading and literacy across the school.

To provide pastoral support and care as a Class Teacher and to develop individualised plans for pupils as well as liaise with colleagues re: baseline assessments and schemes of work.

 

To contribute to the development of curriculum innovations, behaviour management strategies, accreditation, policies and procedures within the school and across the Trust, as well as delivering the specific subject area(s). 

 

Maintaining professional boundaries at all times and observing / upholding the values and ethos of the Trust whilst contributing to the overall vision of the organization.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

1.                 Address the behavioural, social and educational needs of pupils and work with other agencies on meeting their emotional needs to support inclusion.

2.                 Prepare lessons and resources appropriate to the learning and behavioural needs of the students.

3.                 To utilize agreed baseline and assessment / marking processes to inform and accelerate progress. 

4.                 Prepare students for end of key stage and ensure their progress is commensurate with baseline testing and information received prior to entry.

5.                 Undertake testing and measure progress at key points as part of the processes related to respite programmes and reintegration preparation.

6.                 Contribute to the whole school ethos of restorative practices and solution-focused work to support children and young people in making the right decisions and developing improved personal strategies for managing and modifying their own behaviour.

7.                 Provide pastoral support for students as a Class Teacher, making at least weekly contact with parents / carers to encourage positive links with education.

8.                 Develop a stimulating and safe learning environment for all students and take responsibility for own classroom / work area as well as contributing to the overall professional appearance of the school building through displays and attention to student behaviour related to damage / graffiti.

9.                 Ensure that educational reports are produced as required by the Head of School and within the respite processes.

10.    To contribute to review meetings for pupils.

11.             Attend daily briefing and CPD sessions as well as other staff meetings and team training as directed by the Headteacher.

12.             Develop a stimulating and exciting learning environment for students with opportunities for broadening experiences and learning new skills.

13.             Undertake supervisory duties during unstructured time in line with the team ethos of the school and any other reasonable duties as directed by the Headteacher.

14.             Adhere to PRICE procedures to ensure the health and safety of all pupils and staff.

15.             To abide by the school's policies, including those relating to safeguarding, health and safety and equal opportunities.

16.             To undertake other reasonable duties which are consistent with both the needs of the school and commensurate with the role of the post holder.

About Bromley Beacon Academy - Orpington

This school offers special provision for children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Split across two re-developed campuses in Orpington (KS2–3) and Bromley (KS 4–5), pupils are supported to learn in a safe and happy environment.

For KS1 (Y2) children, we have a hub at Bromley Trust Academy offering specialist SEMH provision.

At this recently re-developed site, our 5–13-year-old pupils are supported to develop core literacy and numeracy skills, alongside a broad curriculum to inspire, motivate and interest them.

We prioritise emotional and mental health within every aspect of school life – policies & environment, curriculum, special events & campaigns – to positively impact outcomes for pupils. Our extensive therapeutic services are available to all, with individual support and intervention where needed.

Our specialist staff have high expectations of every pupil, while taking a nurturing and encouraging approach to help them reach their potential. We focus on building strong and effective partnerships with parents, carers and other agencies – with the belief that education of our young people is a shared responsibility.

The majority of pupils progress into Key Stage 3 and 4 provision on our Bromley site, via a seamless transition. Once here, their individual needs continue to be well supported, enabling them to reach their full potential.
