Job overview

About the role:  Milestone Academy is an 'Outstanding' School for children aged 2-19 with profound, severe and complex learning difficulties.  We are a friendly, aspirational Academy, part of a highly successful Multi-Academy Trust made up of Primary and Secondary mainstream schools and we now operate satellite centres, sharing our expertise and best practice. We are looking to appoint a talented Teacher with SEN experience to teach in our school alongside our highly skilled and enthusiastic staff team. We can offer the successful candidate the opportunity to work with state of the art facilities including well maintained outdoor learning environments, an on-site hydrotherapy pool, first class sensory learning space and a thriving arts department.

We gladly welcome informal visits to the school to meet the staff and pupils, and to give you the opportunity to see our excellent facilities.  If you would like to arrange a visit in regards to this role, please contact Jan Nichol (Office Manager) on 01474 709 420.  Please note that interviews will be conducted in quick succession from the closing date.

The responsibilities and day-to-day duties of this role are in line with the National Teaching Standards.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  Being part of a successful multi-academy trust allows the academy to share best practice and collaborate with colleagues from a number of other schools in the local area.  As part of the 'cluster' structure all of our academies are grouped together in key geographical areas to enable them to be able to support each other and share resources.  It also offers staff access to career opportunities across the Trust allowing them to progress their career without switching employers.   For more information on working for the Trust please visit our careers pages

Diversity at our core: As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

Welcome to Milestone Academy, part of Leigh Academies Trust. We are a proud school serving students aged 2-19 with Special Educational Needs. Each day our students bring their own unique energy into their school. In turn we ensure that they receive a high quality educational provision delivered through the immensely capable and effective hands of our staff.

The site itself presents a safe and welcoming environment with students placed in one of four settings:

  • Nursery
  • Primary
  • Secondary: Key Stage 3 and 14-19 years

We recognise that adopting a personalised approach is a critical key for each student’s development. Therefore we invest a significant amount of time assessing the student’s needs – an assessment that ensures we respond in the most specific manner. This approach is repeated throughout their time with us.

Personal independence is quite rightly an aim for each of our students. Therefore, in and out of classrooms we pride ourselves in adopting an approach that accelerates the development of life skills and enhances communication techniques. In parallel, we ensure that each student is taught the appropriate national curriculum subjects, as well as literacy and numeracy skills.

We may well be one of the largest schools of its type in England but rest assured that each student is extremely well known by the adults in their class. The appropriate mix of safety, care and challenge is delivered to each student, every single day that they attend Milestone Academy.

Principal: Sarah Goosani
