Job overview

Milestone Academy is a large special school for pupils with Profound, Severe and Complex needs, and is part of Leigh Academies Trust.  We currently have 333 pupils on roll aged between the ages of 2 and 19.  The majority of our pupils are based at the main school site in New Ash Green, with other cohorts of pupils attending one of our satellite provisions based at other mainstream Leigh Academies Trust schools – Dartford Primary Academy, The Leigh Academy and Wilmington Academy – allowing us to share best practice in every way possible.  Milestone Academy has been judged as Outstanding by Ofsted at our last two inspections.

In our most recent parent survey, when asked to name one thing the school does well, parents commented the following;

- “Excellent teaching and understanding of my child’s needs”

- “Makes everyone feel welcome”

- “Work in partnership with parents to ensure our children are happy and making progress”

Our staff believe Milestone Academy is;

- “Encouraging, friendly and supportive”

- “The school supports your goals where possible”

- “Training and development is paramount”

We are looking to appoint an ambitious teacher who can offer the very best teaching and learning to our pupils and ensure they achieve the excellent outcomes they deserve. We can offer a wide range of developmental opportunities to work with pupils from different age groups and with varying levels of need across different settings, and we offer excellent continuing professional development opportunities to increase your knowledge and skills and allow you to progress your career. We are driven to ensure our pupils are safe and happy and we have high expectations that every pupil will be valued, challenged and supported to make sustained academic and personal progress.

If you are interested in working at our very successful special school, we gladly welcome informal visits to meet the staff and pupils and to give you the opportunity to see our excellent facilities.  If you would like to arrange a visit to support your application, please contact Jan Nichol (Office Manager) on 01474 709 420.

The responsibilities and day-to-day duties of this role are in line with the National Teaching Standards.

Being part of Leigh Academies Trust:  Being part of a successful multi-academy trust allows the academy to share best practice and collaborate with colleagues from a number of other schools in the local area.  As part of the 'cluster' structure all of our academies are grouped together in key geographical areas to enable them to be able to support each other and share resources.  It also offers staff access to career opportunities across the Trust allowing them to progress their career without switching employers.   For more information on working for the Trust please visit our careers pages

Diversity at our core: As a Trust we are passionate about diversity and recognise that as individuals we all bring something unique to the role regardless of age, gender, race, beliefs or disabilities which is why we treat all of our people equally, without compromise.

The academy is committed to safeguarding children and successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.  Our commitment to safeguarding is underpinned by robust processes and checks which are in place across the Trust.

Welcome to Milestone Academy, part of Leigh Academies Trust. We are a proud school serving students aged 2-19 with Special Educational Needs. Each day our students bring their own unique energy into their school. In turn we ensure that they receive a high quality educational provision delivered through the immensely capable and effective hands of our staff.

The site itself presents a safe and welcoming environment with students placed in one of four settings:

  • Nursery
  • Primary
  • Secondary: Key Stage 3 and 14-19 years

We recognise that adopting a personalised approach is a critical key for each student’s development. Therefore we invest a significant amount of time assessing the student’s needs – an assessment that ensures we respond in the most specific manner. This approach is repeated throughout their time with us.

Personal independence is quite rightly an aim for each of our students. Therefore, in and out of classrooms we pride ourselves in adopting an approach that accelerates the development of life skills and enhances communication techniques. In parallel, we ensure that each student is taught the appropriate national curriculum subjects, as well as literacy and numeracy skills.

We may well be one of the largest schools of its type in England but rest assured that each student is extremely well known by the adults in their class. The appropriate mix of safety, care and challenge is delivered to each student, every single day that they attend Milestone Academy.

Principal: Sarah Goosani
