Job overview

Cambridge International School – SEN Coordinator

We are seeking a UK or similarly qualified SEN specialist teacher with a recognised teaching qualification, along with experience and preferably qualification in the support of students with mild to moderate special needs.  This is a role which would involve working with children from the age of 6 to 18. All applicants must be fluent English speakers and have experience of supporting students either in the UK, or in an English medium school elsewhere. Experience in international schools, though desirable, is not essential. Organisational skills, initiative, flexibility, independence and a strong belief in a child-centred approach to education along with a  warm, friendly, happy disposition are sought.

Staff with connections and language skills related to the Slovak Republic are particularly attractive for this role.

Cambridge International School is situated 30 miles from Vienna in Bratislava, the safe and comfortable capital of Slovakia. We are a young and expanding international school teaching the English National curriculum along with Cambridge IGCSE, AS and A Level. Class sizes are small - maximum 18 to IGCSE and 12 at A Level. Our buildings are new and of an extremely high standard with large, airy and light classrooms (equipped with interactive whiteboards and other modern technology) as well as many common areas for students, staff and parents. We are not a selective school and students are generally from affluent local families or are the children of diplomats or expatriates working in Bratislava for international companies. 50% of our staff are from the UK with others from around the world. Our school also operates four Cambridge Kindergartens, one directly next to the main school and three in nearby areas.

Bratislava is a very pleasant, historic, central European city with daily low-cost flights from several UK airports. The city is as well-resourced as any large British city with entertainment spots (multiplex cinemas, theatres, concert venues, sports arenas, international restaurants and bars), shopping centres and a very attractive old town, as well as much, much more. Bratislava has the 6th highest regional GDP per capita in Europe ahead of cities such as Vienna, Madrid, Paris and Berlin, but still has a much lower cost of living than all of these and the UK. The city’s location, being just an hour’s bus/train journey from Vienna, two hours from Budapest and four hours from Prague make it an ideal low cost spot from which to explore the major historic capitals of central Europe. Other central, eastern and southern European countries can also easily be reached by budget airline from Bratislava’s new international airport. So all-in-all, this is a great opportunity for a younger and ambitious or a more mature teaching professional seeking an opportunity where they can make a real difference.
