Job overview

SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Full-time only)

Closing date: Monday 10th January 2022 at 9am.

The Holmewood School is a small independent Special Educational Needs school meeting the needs of children aged from 7 to 19 with high functioning autism and Asperger’s, language and communication difficulties and specific learning difficulties. We are proud to have been awarded Advanced Accreditation Status by the National Autistic Society.

We are located in North Finchley and Muswell Hill. Our Lower School in North Finchley  is conveniently situated  opposite Woodside Park station (on the Northern Line).  Our Upper School is based at a lovely site in Muswell Hill.

Due to the loss of our Lower School HLTA, a new position has become available for January 2021. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has started or gained the HLTA qualification and is keen to move into teaching as well as wanting greater responsibility for areas of school development that they are passionate about.

Please see the HLTA job description for full details and note that this exciting job may include some of the following:

-Teaching whole classes for agreed lessons

-Pastoral responsibility through shared form duties (usually with an existing teacher)

-Covering ad-hoc lessons for teachers

-Interventions with groups or individuals

-Leading on a particular area of whole school development that both interests you, and is important to the current priorities of the school (in line with the School Improvement Plan)

-Supporting and mentoring newer Teaching Assistants

-Leading assemblies

-Participation in some of the CPD for teachers

Successful candidates will need to hold the HLTA qualification or be studying towards this.  If you are in the process of gaining this award, you will need to bring evidence of your progress (including a recent teaching observation) to the interview.  If you have previously held a HLTA position in another school you are welcome to apply.

We are looking for dynamic, flexible and enthusiastic people who are positive about change and exude this positivity to other staff.  You will be committed to providing the best opportunities for our group of learners, ensuring every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

We can offer you the benefits of working to a school calendar with a 37-week year (15 weeks paid holidays) and an excellent professional development package.

We are part of the Cavendish Group, a unique group of educational independent day and boarding schools. We work closely with the other schools in our group, have extensive community links and believe in ‘thinking differently’ and being as creative as possible in our teaching.

For more information, please contact Simon Hardwick, Office Manager, on 020 8920 0660 or enquiries@thsl.org.uk or visit our website at www.thsl.org.uk

Closing date for applications: 9.00am on Monday 10th January 2022

The post is full-time, working hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. We are unable to consider applications from candidates who are unable to work full-time hours.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check prior to employment.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

We encourage diversity in our staffing in order for children and young people to see themselves represented in society.

About The Holmewood School

The Holmewood School is a growing independent day school for neurodivergent children and young people aged from 7 to 19 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our young people are broadly similar to their mainstream peers in their academic ability but require support with communication and interaction, executive functioning, anxiety, functional skills and other needs related to their diagnosis. Many of our young people also have coaccurring diagnoses, such as ADHD and dyslexia.

We were awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted following their visit in May 2022 and we are proud to have Advanced Accreditation Status granted by the National Autistic Society.
