SEN teacher / Additional Needs teacher for August 2023.

A SEN/Additional needs teacher is sought for Southern International School Hat Yai, a rapidly growing, co-educational, pre-school to age 18 Cambridge International School in the prosperous and friendly southern Thai city of Hat Yai. We are an accredited examination centre for Cambridge International Examinations and received the ISQM Silver accreditation through the Education Development Trust in June 2019.

Southern International School (SIH) is a young and ambitious school with a ‘can-do’ attitude and we are looking for an individual who has a nuturing and inclusive attitude to ensure all our students can achieve the best results possible.

The successful candidate would be expected to further enhance our additional needs department. Over the past 2 years SEN has been a key focus of the school and we are now looking for an experienced teacher to work alongside our SENCO to expand upon this area of the school even further. You will be expected to work with students from early years through to secondary providing support, devising individualised learning plans, leading intervention programmes etc to ensure all pupils can succeed in school. You will work alongside our external partners to ensure all students have access to the support and guidance they need during their time at SIH. You will be expected to work with all staff to train them on strategies to use in the classroom to get the best out of the pupils and work closely with our parents and community to ensure our students are given the best possible opportunities.

We welcome applications from experienced teachers who have a vast range of skills working with students with a wide range of additional needs.

Our children are mostly Thai and from other Asian countries with parents who are committed to giving their children an international education. Our parents are extremely loyal and supportive, and participate in many school events and activities.

The successful candidate will be joining the school at an exciting period in its development. There are opportunities to develop yourself professionally and personally in a safe, happy, supportive environment. Hat Yai in Songkhla province has grown from a small but busy commercial town into a lively but manageable city of a little over a million, surrounded by rice paddies, forested hills and waterfalls. The tourist hot spots of Krabi, Trang and Phuket are easily accessible for long weekend trips, but there are several unspoiled destinations much closer to home. New upmarket bistros and restaurants are springing up seemingly overnight, adding to the cosmopolitan feel of this welcoming city. Accommodation is cheap and varied, from Thai-style houses to newly built, self-contained condominiums with shared swimming pools. Hat Yai is a wonderful, safe city that provides a great quality of life, and this partly explains why so many of our staff choose to renew their contracts.

COVID-19 statement:

We feel relatively safe in Southern Thailand however given the precautions taken by the Thai government, it is extremely difficult to get foreign teachers into Thailand, but we have managed to recruit overseas teachers successfully. Our admin team are excellent and incredibly supportive.

At the time of writing, the preconditions are:  

• A Visa ( we assist you with this and the school covers the cost)  
• Health Insurance covering COVID-19 ( we assist you with this )  
• A flight ( you arrange and pay for this, and we reimburse up to THB 20k on arrival)  
• You would be advised to get a vaccination as this will ease your travel and may reduce the quarantine period.

Given the uncertainty of your actual arrival date, Your contract would normally start from your first day of work.
