We are currently looking for Class Teacher to join Aurora St Christopher’s School in Bristol.

Aurora St Christopher’s supports children and young people aged 5 to 19 years with severe and complex communication difficulties including those on the autistic spectrum and with physical and sensory needs.

We have one aim; to empower children and young people to develop and grow in their own unique and inspiring way.

The site in Bristol has recently undergone a multimillion-pound redevelopment which has completely modernised the living and learning environment at St Christopher’s. The Role:

The purpose of the Class Teacher is to provide high quality, challenging and differentiated educational activities and experiences through teaching a broad and balanced curriculum aiming at pupils achieving their full potential in all areas of learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To carry out the professional duties of a Teacher as outlined in the Professional Standards for Teachers.
  • To take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school’s policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • To lead support and supervision sessions for Assistant Teachers and Higher Level Teaching Assistants including Professional Development Reviews.
  • To plan and deliver lessons following a broad and balanced curriculum according to DfE guidance and the school’s policies including reflective practice.
  • To be responsible for the day to day running of the class and assist in other relevant aspects of the day to day running of the school.
  • To assess, record and report pupils’ progress according the school’s policy in order to monitor and foster pupils’ progress in all areas of learning.
  • To attend and contribute to teachers’ meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings and any other relevant staff meetings.
  • To ensure a high standard of personal care for the pupils, carefully monitoring the health and well-being of pupils informing the care staff, medical staff, behaviour support team and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher status
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN, SLD/PMLD and ASD
  • Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including managing behaviours that challenge

Requirements of the role:

  • Eligibility to work within the UK
  • Undergo an enhanced DBS
  • Required to work bank holidays if these fall within our term time
