SEN Teacher - Portfield School, Christchurch
Portfield school is based by Bournemouth airport and we have a Life skills 16+ site in Christchurch we have 60 students all who sit on the Autism spectrum or and have other learning difficulties. . Our mission is to support the education and personal development of each of our students and ensure that they can be active citizens enjoying maximum independence and a good quality of life. With a focus on developing skills and strategies for life and using recognized and effective approaches, the school provides education and care specifically tailored to suit each individual students strengths and needs.
About the role
We are seeking to appoint a motivated and talented teacher who has proven experience of working with pupils with Autism and /or severe learning difficulties.
You must be willing to work with students up to the age of 19 and have a sound knowledge of SEN and ‘P’ levels, a passion for child centred education, an understanding of challenging. behaviour and proven ability as an effective SEN classroom practitioner. You will be expected to lead a team of up to 7 support staff. We would accept a newly qualified or experienced teacher

- Has knowledge and ideally experience of different learning techniques
- Has the ability to motivate and inspire pupils
- Must hold Qualified Teacher Certificate and DFES Approval
- Experience of working with Autism preferred
- To motivate and lead a team of up to 7 support staff

The curriculum offer is holistic and enables the self-confidence, resilience and self-advocacy of the students to bloom as well as allowing the individual to achieve accredited qualifications. In addition to academic achievement, we build emotional wellbeing and resilience and develop the students’ social and independence skills.
Our holistic curriculum includes not only education, but also therapy, the development of skills for life, independence, and a focus on accessing the world of work through a highly tailored work experience programme.
