Job overview

ABOUT THE ROLE

The governors of Onslow St Audrey’s are seeking to appoint a SEN Teacher who is an outstanding SEN practitioner and an individual who can join a stable SEND team. We are looking for someone who can contribute to a SEND department and further advance the development of our most vulnerable students. We have a high number of students on the SEND register as well as a Speech and Language Base and the successful candidate would be expected to work across the whole school. The aim is to ensure that all our young people learn, contribute and thoroughly enjoy school life.

We wish to appoint an outstanding teacher who has experience of working within the SEND area, with a proven track record of raising student attainment, achievement and progress. We are seeking someone who is focused, resilient and good humoured, has secondary, and preferably, primary school experience.

Applicants should also possess excellent communication skills, be extremely motivated and have exceptional interpersonal skills. Specific responsibilities will include teaching students with a range of special educational needs either individually or in small groups. Predominantly such lessons will be literacy and numeracy with the aim of developing a child’s independent learning within mainstream classes across the curriculum. These will be across KS3 and KS4.

Other areas of responsibility would include being the lead for Visually Impaired students and supporting students with physical, emotional, behavioural or learning difficulties and to enable their full or appropriate access to the secondary curriculum. This would also include the setting up of a specific mentoring programme for these students within the school.

The successful candidate would also be expected to work flexibly within the SEND team to further develop the department’s aims and within the ethos of the school.

Values and vision

Onslow St Audrey's School, in expecting the best for its students, believes itself to be highly ambitious in terms of what it wants from them.

The school aims to play a key role in the development of its students through high quality teaching and learning in lessons and having a rich extra-curricular programme outside of lessons. It wishes to help to develop excellent students as well as confident, articulate, and talented young adults.

Ofsted

“Students are proud of their school and behave impeccably towards one another in lessons and around the school. Students feel safe and well cared for. Students’ attendance is well above average. Many out-of-school activities, visits and visitors extend the range of opportunities available for students and this supports their personal development. The sixth form is good. The schools’ partnership with other local schools allows sixth form students to follow a wide range of subjects and courses and, as a result, they achieve well.”
