Job overview

We are seeking to employ an outstanding, enthusiastic and energetic class teacher, who is also an excellent SENCO or aspiring SENCO, to lead SEND and inclusion across our successful 2-form of entry primary school.

Our new SENCO will:

  • Be a creative, flexible and forward-thinking SENCO or aspiring SENCO, with up to date, relevant training and experience (completion of a National SENCO Qualification preferable, though not essential)
  • Show commitment and proven experience for securing high levels of progress, achievement and self-esteem for all SEND children
  • Ensure that Princess May Primary School is compliant with the SEND Code of Practice (2014) and other relevant statutory requirements
  • Have the experience, knowledge and skills to support the planning and delivery of Quality First Teaching to ensure that each and every child can access the National Curriculum
  • Manage and monitor SEND interventions across the school, ensuring they are fit for purpose 
  • Regularly review the SEND register and identify children who would benefit from additional support
  • Hold regular review meetings with parents staff and other agencies
  • Liaise effectively with outside agencies to ensure the needs of all of our children are met through completion of IEPs, EHCPs and other tailored support plans


Our SENCO will be class based, with ring-fenced weekly release time to complete the SEND aspects of the role. We are looking for a highly motivated, caring and committed teacher who has the ability to:

  • Demonstrate high-quality teaching in with very high expectations of achievement, attainment and behaviour
  • Inspire children to learn in all areas of the curriculum
  • Demonstrate excellent understanding of assessment for learning
  • Work flexibly, closely and collaboratively with colleagues in our friendly, dedicated and hardworking staff team
  • Have a creative, positive outlook and flexible approach to all aspects of school life
  • Has outstanding behaviour management skills


This role would suit an experienced or aspiring SENCO,  with the school providing support for any candidate completing a national SEND qualification.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of our Senior Leadership Group.

About Princess May Primary School

Princess May is a two-form entry school in a vibrant area of the London Borough of Hackney, situated between Stoke Newington and Dalston. We currently have 190 pupils on roll, including a nursery,  a high number of which are eligible for the Pupil Premium Grant. The school is fully inclusive, with very strong community support and engagement. A strong teaching and learning team ensure that each child reaches their full potential, regardless of background or economic barriers. This is our core purpose.
