Offa’s Mead Academy is situated in Sedbury in a lovely location, with approximately 190 children on role.  We are entering a time of rapid improvement and change and it is an extremely exciting time to join the team!

We are now looking for a part-time SENCO to start in September.  You will be responsible for the academic and pastoral development and well-being of all students with an SEN or Disability related need, or LAC status; to be responsible for the implementation of the SEND policy and legal requirements across the whole school; to ensure adequate SEN (including Mental Health and related pastoral needs), Disability, and LAC provision is in place.  For a fully qualified SENCO who holds the NASENCo qualification, there is the possibility of a TLR.

We warmly welcome visits to our academy so you can see for yourself all that we can offer!

We passionately believe that every child can discover their own remarkable life. It’s what motivates us around here. We know this vision requires something extra. Which is why at AET, you’ll find more. More opportunities, so you can forge your own path. More care and support, so you can prioritise what matters most. More purpose, for you and for the children we’re inspiring.

We offer:

  • More opportunity to grow your career - We’ll support you in developing your career and experience at this school or another AET school.
  • More tailored support - We understand every academy is unique. We’ll give you tailored support and flexibility, allowing you to do what’s best for your children.
  • More chance to see what’s out there - We create opportunities for teachers to visit other AET academies and learn from outside experience.
  • More like minded colleagues, so you can benefit from others’ experience - You’re connected to our network of over 60 academies and thousands of education professionals.
  • More technology so you can make more impact - G Suite for Education embedded throughout. Collaborative cloud technology gives you access to the latest tools, when and where it suits you. More tech enabled classrooms mean less time spent on admin and more time teaching.
  • More time - We strive to minimise unnecessary distractions so you can have energy for your job, and your life.

This is a permanent, part-time position, to start September 2019.

Offa’s Mead Academy is located in Sedbury, a village in the Forest of Dean district of west Gloucestershire, on the eastern bank of the River Wye, facing the beautiful Welsh town of Chepstow.  We are close to Beachley Barracks and the academy draws 40% of its pupils from the families of service personnel based at the barracks. The current number on roll is 127.  Children start their time with the academy after the early years foundation stage, joining part-way through the school year. In addition, many pupils also leave part way through the school year so we have an exciting challenge of ensuring every student who comes through our gates gets the best education!

In December 2018, following a full inspection, we were confirmed as an ‘inadequate’ school by Ofsted. Since that point, the Trust and the Offa’s Mead team have worked tirelessly to bring about change through building educational excellence.

We value and respect the views of the children. The Pupil Leadership Team (PLT) gives the children a voice to express their opinions and make decisions which affect the whole school. For example, choosing books to purchase after our fundraising. Taking care of our children and encouraging them to develop a positive attitude is an essential element of the work we do at Offa’s Mead.

Pupil behaviour is a strength at Offa’s Mead Academy. They are advocates for the academy and work hard to challenge themselves in the classroom. They are supported through the curriculum, with schemes such as Jigsaw, as the academy develops every child holistically, whilst also championing the importance of educational outcomes.

At Offa’s Mead Academy we provide a broad and balanced curriculum.
