Job overview

United Learning
Princess Helen College is part of United Learning, a large, and growing, group of schools aiming to offer a life changing education to children and young people across England.

Our schools work as a team and achieve more by sharing than any single school could. Our subject specialists, our Group-wide intranet, our own curriculum and our online learning portal all help us share knowledge and resource, helping to simplify work processes and manage workloads for an improved work-life balance.

As a Group, we can reward our staff better: with good career opportunities, better pay, benefits, and ultimately, the satisfaction of helping children to succeed. We invest in our staff wellbeing. Our academies each have at least eight INSET days per year (with three of those solely dedicated to planning), and an ongoing group-wide wellbeing programme. It's an ethos we call ‘the best in everyone’.

About the role:
PHC is seeking an inspirational and dedicated part time SENCo to lead and manage Special Educational Needs and Disability in accordance with the 2014 SEND code of practice. The candidate will be required to coordinate provision for individual students with additional needs and to oversee day to day provision. Alongside specialist teaching the role will encompass working closely with staff, parents/carers and external agencies. The SENCo provides relevant professional guidance to colleagues with the aim of securing quality first teaching for students with SEN.

The role requires the SENCo to analyse and assess students’ needs and advise on the graduated approach to providing SEN support and develop effective ways of overcoming barriers to learning.

We would love to hear from enthusiastic people with a passion for working with diverse, curious and ambitious students. The successful candidate will have ideas for building on the success of the department; they will be motivated, well organised, informed about SEN current practice and keen to ensure all SEN students reach their full potential.

Princess Helena College is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for students aged 11 to 18. The school is set just outside Hitchin in 100 acres of mature parkland. Boarding at PHC takes place in a single boarding house, currently all girls, opening to boys for boarding from Sept 2020.
