Job purpose:

 To lead a team of staff within the academy to ensure effective support for SEND students by promoting the removal of barriers to engagement and learning

Responsible for:

As the lead for SEND ensure that student inclusion is kept as a priority across the school and to ensure the personalised support is implemented to meet the needs of individual students.

 Implementation of the SEND Code of Practice across the team and academy as a whole

 Supporting good attendance and attainment of SEND students by working with the students, families and external agencies to remove barriers and promote success.

 Account for the bespoke and alternative educational programmes used to support student inclusion

Main Duties and Responsibilities

It may be modified by the Principal, with your agreement, to reflect or anticipate changes in the job, commensurate with the salary and job title.

Leadership duties

 Contribute to the Self Evaluation (SEF) and Development Plan (DP) for this area, directly accounting to the SLT link on progress made

 Prepare for audits and inspections that may take place for SEN, Alternative Provision (AP), Educated other than at School (EOTAS).

 Account for student attendance across all provision.

 Overall accountability for the quality of teaching and learning within SEND, bespoke provision and wider learning programmes (AP, EOTAS).

 Hold accountability for the progress and attainment of all students within SEND, AP, EOTAS and any alternative curriculum.

 Provide analysed and informative data to Senior Leadership and Governors as requested. This progress information must include holistic progress data for all students within SENDV.

 Undertake performance management of staff within the SEND team

 Coordinate staff training to meet needs, consulting with key staff to ensure appropriate provision.

 Deliver whole school training as agreed and planned by the senior leadership team. Monitor the quality of this training and analyse impact of training delivered.

 Contribute to the development of relevant policy ensure appropriate and effective implementation.

 Manage all associated budgets including SEN funding allocation, ensuring diligent and beneficial expenditure to meet the needs of the child.

 Work with Locality Teams as required.

 Work closely with the Designated Child Protection Lead to create a joined up provision across the school.

Teaching & Learning

Deliver high quality first teaching for a maximum 50% of a subject timetable and report to subject leadership for these subjects. This teaching will be looked to as best practice for examples of differentiated teaching.

Support colleagues with the development of differentiated and inclusive teaching and learning resources

Special Educational Needs & Disability

Attend SENCo network meetings.

Report to the Governors on a termly basis, presenting required information in an appropriate format.

Take part in SEND reviews as required.

Undertake relevant training and update personal knowledge base as required

Write, direct & manage Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP), advise on appropriate implementation, monitor impact and review.

Maintain and account for an accurate and detailed online K/SEN register, including the updates on this from staff at termly review points. •Attend local authority SENDCo meetings.

Take part in Local Authority (LA) panels as appropriate.

Monitor EHA referrals and support as needed.

Inclusion, Alternative Provision and EOTAS for Students with SEN

Manage & support the quality assurance of work placements, off site provision: including EOTAS and any provision that is brought on to site by external providers.

Quality assurance should be managed to assure senior leaders that the quality of provision outside of school is positively impacting on the progress of students. Where progress is not positive, take corrective action to make appropriate changes.

Work closely with the Heads of Year to ensure transition of student responsibility between house team and bespoke provision is smooth and that all information is shared appropriately.

Overall accountability for the quality of curriculum provision within Learning Support to ensure maximum impact on attainment outcomes.

Support and inform discussions related to all SENDV funding and relevant LA or local agreements that will impact on provision within the academy

The post holder will have a shared responsibility for the safe guarding of all children and young people. The post holder also has an implicit duty to promote the welfare of all children and young people.

Where the post holder has a budgetary responsibility, it is a requirement of the role to work within the school’s financial regulations. This will involve completing monthly monitoring reports and where necessary liaison with the Finance Team.

The Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. All staff will be subject to an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service

Wellbeing

Ensure all pupils have equal access to learning using appropriate strategies and resources, where necessary.

Liaise with pastoral staff members to ensure the wellbeing of pupils and their full participation in school life.

Raise any concerns regarding pupils’ behaviour with the relevant Raising Standards Lead.

Implement any specific arrangements for individual pupils, ensuring that relevant staff members are aware of the measures in place.

Provide individual pastoral support to pupils, where necessary.

Continuously motivate and challenge pupils, whilst promoting and reinforcing self-esteem.

Safeguarding

To have the ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.

Appreciate the significance of safeguarding and interprets this accurately for all individual children and young people whatever their life circumstances.

To have a good understanding of the safeguarding agenda and can demonstrate an ability to contribute towards a safe environment.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice and information in accurate spoken English is essential for the post. 

Variation Clause

This job description will be reviewed and updated periodically in order to ensure that it relates to the job performed or to incorporate any proposed changes.  This procedure will be conducted by the Headteacher or line manager in consultation with the post-holder.  In these circumstances it will be the aim to reach agreement on reasonable changes but if agreement is not possible management reserves the right to make changes to the job description following consultation

 Abbey College, Ramsey is located in a small market town, almost half way between Huntingdon and Peterborough and within easy reach of Cambridge and London. The College is set within extensive, historic and beautiful grounds close to the Parish Church of St Thomas A Becket.    The College is a large 11-18 school with a catchment which extends over a wide rural area. 

There are approximately 1090 students on role, including a sixth form of 120. We currently have around 70 members of teaching staff with an additional support team of over 75 members of staff.   

We have high aspirations as a College as our 2016 results showed. Our A level and BTEC results placed us the sixth best in Cambridgeshire, outdoing many private schools, and our GCSE results were our highest ever, with a progress 8 figure of 0.21. We are also oversubscribed for the second year in a row this year by over 40% and our attendance is 2% higher than the national averages.
