Job overview

Outwood Academy Brumby is an 11 – 16 school occupying a modern building in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. It is within easy reach of Lincoln, Grimsby, the east of Doncaster and the motorway network. Our latest Ofsted judgement is Good with Outstanding Leadership.

This post is a vital appointment in terms of enhancing and ensuring the positive life chances for our students through success and achievement. As such we are keen to recruit a dedicated and ambitious professional who will add value to the academy in both academic terms and through involvement in the fabric of learning and success beyond the classroom. A passion for supporting our most vulnerable students and those with barriers to learning is essential.

This outstanding individual will provide expert advice, modelled through outstanding teaching to develop the practice of all staff and will work closely with our dedicated inclusion team to support our students.

The successful candidate will be provided with the training, support and CPD needed to enable them to meet the requirements of the role and thrive within the Outwood Grange Family of Schools. They will be a suitably qualified SENCO or someone with a willingness to achieve National SENCO Award and will be expected to teach approximately 14 hours per week. If you possess the qualities and passion we need for this vital role, we would welcome your application.

In line with Government guidance we are currently limiting access to our academy. However, we are still busily planning ahead for the forthcoming academic year and are excited about welcoming new recruits to come and join us. In some instances, we may use remote processes in place of academy-based interviews and therefore we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are available via skype/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage.

Understandably, visits to the school may be limited at present, however we are really keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position please contact m.leather@brumby.outwood.com and we will be happy to assist.

We are proud that Outwood Academy Brumby is rated Good with Outstanding leadership by Ofsted and we are based in the friendly, North Lincolnshire town of Scunthorpe with easy access to the stunning countryside. The Academy became part of the Outwood Family of Schools in 2012 and has been transformed beyond recognition, having formerly been in Special Measures.

We provide every opportunity for children to be successful and pride ourselves on the outcomes they achieve and we were delighted that after its latest visit, Ofsted noted that staff at the academy ‘understand the needs and interests of pupils well,’ and highlighted that ‘pupils say that staff are supportive.’

We believe our success speaks for itself as we are above the national average for the number of students achieving a Grade 5 or above in English and maths GCSEs.

As we strive to become Outstanding, help to take us to the next level.

The Outwood Family of Schools pride ourselves on fully supporting colleagues within the Family both professionally and personally.

We work hard to ensure we reduce workload on staff, allowing more time in the classroom to put our vision of students first, raising standards and transforming lives into practice.

As a founding Trust of the National Institute of Education (NIoT), we will actively invest in your future through working closely with the Outwood Institute of Education and NIoT to offer access to a wide range of CPD opportunities, with all teaching staff receiving a minimum of two hours of CPD each week.

We also offer a generous employment package with a whole host of staff benefits, including family friendly policies, enhanced occupational benefits available (such as maternity, adoption and parental leave) with no qualifying period, funded CPD for qualifications up to and including Masters level plus other exclusive benefits including a partnership with car leasing company, Synergy.

All academies within the Outwood Family have gained the IQM Inclusive Schools Award with 18 having Centre of Excellence status and one holding Flagship status.

If you share our vision, join our family.
