The Skipton Academy is a mixed, mainstream, secondary state school in North Yorkshire. Located in Skipton, it caters to students aged 11 to 16 and can accommodate up to 835 pupils at full capacity.

The Skipton Academy started as a community school called Aireville School, administered by the North Yorkshire County Council. It converted to an academy in September 2014 and has a comprehensive admissions policy.

Vision and values

The Skipton Academy’s main aims are: to challenge each child to be the best they can be; to ensure children are safe and supported; and to teach them to love learning. The school wants to become an outstanding academy by 2020. Teachers aim to ensure all lessons bring out the best in each individual, challenging and encouraging all students to be independent learners. They strive to provide a curriculum that covers what pupils will need once they are in the world of work.

The secondary school aims to ensure all pupils and staff are caring and respectful of themselves and one another. It offers a wide range of extra-curricular and cultural activities, while enrichment activities include everything from a pantomime rewards trip to a Learn2Earn activity day.

The curriculum prioritises the core subjects of English, maths, RE and PE. All students must also choose to study French, geography or history. Other subjects are available, such as computer science, engineering, health and social care, drama and business studies.
