Job overview

SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) | September 2018

Claremont Senior School, judged by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’ in all areas in May 2016, seeks to appoint a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)  with excellent leadership and communication skills with effect from 1 September 2018. The School will consider candidates whose notice period would prevent them from starting the post until January 2019.

Responsibilities will encompass all aspects of our SEND provision throughout the School, managing a dedicated and committed team of special needs support staff in order to raise student achievement, and supporting the Assistant Head (Academic) with oversight of our Speech and Language and Autistic Spectrum Additionally Resourced Provisions.

It is also important that any potential candidate will be able to take a lead role in the organisation of specific examination provisions available to our SEND students. Part of this will require direct communication with specific examination boards, liaising with and providing specific advice to classroom teachers, and providing specialist support to the School’s Examinations Officer.

The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner with high expectations, someone who can continue to promote a culture of inclusion.  They will lead relevant insets to develop materials and strategies for effective differentiated provision throughout the curriculum. The successful applicant will also take specific responsibility for developing, implementing and reviewing the SEND programme for students.

We are looking for candidates who:

·         are highly ambitious for our children and students and who are committed to building their confidence and aspirations.

·         are committed to children and students’ academic and personal development

·         have successful experience of motivating staff and improving performance

·         have a proactive and creative approach to working with others.

Working across KS3, 4 and 5, they will also assist the Assistant Head (Academic) with:

·         identification of children with SEND

·         EHCP plans

·         engagement with all stakeholders, including parents

·         supporting teachers and support staff to ensure their teaching is well matched to the needs of individual students.
