Job overview

Job role

We are very excited to offer the opportunity for an appropriately qualified, experienced and inspiring special educational needs teaching professional to join our School which opened to its first pupils in June 2022. Pupil numbers are rising and the construction of a purpose built extension to our original premises is well underway, due for completion in June and will lead to a doubling of the number of pupils on role for September.

The School Board want to take the opportunity to add significant capacity to the teaching team by appointing a SENCO who will work very closely with the Headteacher and take responsibility for all aspects of the leadership and management of SEND provision. Ideally, the person appointed will be able to teach English, although this is not an essential requirement.

We want to hear from candidates who can demonstrate a successful track record of teaching, leadership and management in a SEND setting, ideally in the secondary phase and with SEMH experience. The post represents an incredibly exciting opportunity for the right person to take the lead role in building on the success the School has enjoyed since it opened in its own state of the art facilities, to further help to secure it as a centre of both SEND and SEMH excellence in the local area and to make a significant contribution towards shaping future provision as it expands.

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual who will:

·      Have a highly successful track record in leading staff in the delivery of high quality SEND and SEMH provision.

·      Thrive on working in a challenging but equally immensely rewarding environment.

·      Display a passion for our vision, our pupils and inspire all stakeholders to do the same.

·      Truly want to make a difference by delivering provision of the highest possible quality.

·      Model best practice in leadership and have high expectations of pupils and staff.

About The Haven School Wolston

Our School is a registered independent school which opened in June 2022 and is situated in a beautiful rural location in the Warwickshire countryside. Our core aim is to offer a highly bespoke education to enhance the social and emotional wellbeing and life chances of vulnerable children who struggle in a mainstream educational setting. The School currently has 10 pupils on role, the capacity to cater for up to 25 pupils once the extension to the premises is completed in June. The School is already dealing with a large number of admissions referrals for both the remainder of the present academic year and September 2023.

The School caters for pupils with SEMH, Autism and ADHD from a number of local authorities, schools and academies and provides them with a highly specialist and individualised educational experience designed to allow them to overcome their barriers to learning. We are looking to appoint a highly experienced and motivated individual who shares our unflinching commitment to providing the young people we will serve with the best possible future life chances.

The Haven School Wolston is only nine months into its incredibly exciting journey. The post of SENCO offers the right person a fantastic opportunity to contribute to its leadership as it moves forward into the next exciting stage of its future as we seek to realise our mission of truly making The Haven School Wolston ‘A place to belong’ for our pupils.

What we will offer

·      Premises (with a large extension due for completion in June 2023) located in a former stables block on a large rural estate that have been newly refurbished to an extremely high standard.

·      Support from the Headteacher alongside a high degree of professional autonomy.

·      The opportunity to join and further grow our small and highly supportive team which prides itself on its commitment to school improvement, CPD and career enhancement.

·      Very low pupil-teacher ratios with generous Learning Support Assistant provision.

·      Free car parking.
