We would like to recruit a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) or Trainee SENCO to join our successful and well-established department.  This role will be responsible for the development of the School’s Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision and oversight of the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising SEN pupil achievement.   We are looking for someone who is trained or would be interested in training to become a SENCO. The School will support the appointed person to gain the relevant qualifications. 


ABOUT THE ROLE:

The appointed person will be expected to:

 

- support the Director of SEN in the management of the SEN team, including training and development 

- report on the progress of pupils and the effectiveness of provision for pupils with SEN as regularly as required

- ensure that statutory requirements are met with regard to the SEN Code of Practice, including annual reviews and liaison with specialist support and professionals

- develop and implement whole school approaches, teaching and learning for SEN students 

- be the key worker for identified students with an EHCP which have been allocated by the Director of SEN

- agree and work towards targets for raising achievement and promoting progress for identified SEN pupils

- collect and interpret specialist assessment data in order to inform strategies which promote progress.

- attend Parents’ Evenings and meetings, keeping parents informed about their child’s progress and / or concerns.

- support the Director of SEN in planning and delivering SEN training and INSET to LSAs and teacher

- model quality-first teaching to staff in lessons so that they are able to implement effective SEN teaching




PERSON SPECIFICATION


ESSENTIAL:

• Qualified to degree level 

• Qualified Teacher Status (in a relevant subject)

• Experience of working with parent/carers to support learners’ welfare and achievement 

• Evidence of at least good teaching, in particular with learners with Special Educational Needs

• Willingness to train as a SENCO if not already trained

• Evidence of relevant CPD

• Understanding of the use of assessment to inform planning and improve student performance

• Ability to set consistently high expectations for all students through class work, homework and enrichment

• Commitment to enrichment and extra-curricular provision, in the development of students

• Ability to work effectively in a team

• Excellent communication skills

• Ability to engage, enthuse and motivate students

• Ability to organise, plan and prioritise effectively

• Enthusiasm, drive and love of learning

• Flexibility, adaptability and creativity.

The St Marylebone CE School is an all-girls secondary with co-educational sixth form in Westminster, central London. It is affiliated with the Church of England and designated a National Teaching School. Since 2011, St Marylebone has had academy status.

The St Marylebone CE School welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds, races, cultures, faiths and genders.   The School actively promotes diversity and inclusion across its community and our students come from a wide range of backgrounds: 40% of our students speak English as an additional language; 59% of our students come from backgrounds other than white British.

The secondary school is located next to St Marylebone Parish Church and is a short walk from Regent’s Park. The sixth-form facilities are based in nearby Blandford Street. St Marylebone was founded in 1791 and it carries the motto "An opportunity to excel". There are currently around 1,100 students, 300 of whom are in the sixth form.

The school has been a specialist arts college since 1998. It has since become a specialist school in mathematics and computing, and in special educational needs. This level of expertise has ensured St Marylebone is a model academic setting.
