We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed assistant SENDCo to join our highly motivated and committed team. The successful candidate will support the SENDCo in providing outstanding support for our SEND students.

 

Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

 

·       Under the direction of the SENDCo to collate and prepare information relating to assessments student support plans and referrals

·       To provide mentoring for students with SEND through 1:1 and small group work outside of the classroom.

·       To liaise with Academic Departments to produce resources and materials to support SEND students and ensure they achieve their target grades.

·       To provide guidance to staff on the choice of appropriate teaching and learning methods to meet the needs of different students.

·       To update student records, maintain the SEND register and ensure that staff are informed of student special educational needs.

 

Qualifications and Experience

You will have experience of working in an educational environment in particular with students who have SEND and have the ability to demonstrate a commitment to Every Child Matters, Safeguarding, pastoral care and promotion of high standards of positive behaviour. You will have good interpersonal and communication skills. A higher level qualifications, awareness and understanding of current issues in SEND, and previous experience working with international students is desirable.

Checks and Training

• Enhanced DBS checks to ascertain successful candidates suitability to work with children will be carried out. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and therefore all convictions, cautions and bindovers, including those regarded as ‘spent’ must be declared.

• Online searches will be carried out on candidates for any unsuitable content by or about candidates.

• Two written & verbal references from previous employers and a personal reference will be sought. Referees will be asked about candidates suitability to work with children and whether they know of any disciplinary offences relating to children or young persons and whether candidates have been the subject of any child protection allegations or concerns and if so the outcome of any enquiry or disciplinary procedure.

• Candidates full employment history will be checked, any significant gaps will require explanation and proof of any relevant qualifications will need to be provided.

• Successful candidates will be required to complete Child Protection Training via e-learning prior to commencing employment.

• Pre-employment health screening will also be carried out.
