The Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Support will work closely with the SEND Co-ordinator to ensure the needs of students with special educational needs and disabilities are effectively met.
You will be responsible for a team of Learner Support Assistants and on a daily basis co-ordinate the work of Learner Support Assistants and Communication Support Workers for the curriculum area you are supporting. As their line manager, you will observe Learner Support Assistant practice and conduct performance development reviews (regular one to one meetings)
In addition, you may be responsible for the effective management of a sessional pool of staff and hours.
The majority of your time will be spent in direct contact with students, including running small group sessions for students with SEND, coaching students to take advantage of work experience and opportunities, supporting apprenticeships, supporting students with SEND in ‘crisis’.
You will support the SEND Co-ordinator to review Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP); shape support plans for students with SEND and be responsible for ensuring all records are up-to-date, support plans are communicated well to both Learner Support Assistants and staff working with students with SEND.
Candidates are required to have experience of assessing needs, 1:1 support and facilitating group work. Ideally you should have experience of leading a team and good understanding of student support in the Post 16 sector.
