Job overview

MCPA is seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to support children with complex Special Educational Needs. The majority of this role will be acting as 1:1 support for a child with complex learning needs.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible, resilient, confident in leading small group sessions and providing 1:1 interventions.

Who are we?

Manchester Communication Primary Academy opened its doors in September 2014 to a small cohort of EYFS/Y1 children, since then it has grown by a 2-form year group each year. The school now has nearly 500 children on site.

Our last Ofsted inspection graded the school as ‘Good’ in all areas, MCPA is ‘a school with a ‘heart’; a kind, caring and supportive community. There are 25 different languages spoken yet every pupil is treated as a member of the same family.’ (Ofsted 2017)

The school has a vibrant and inclusive environment; parents are well engaged, staff and children enjoy working and learning at the school. Colleagues at the school are well supported; We use ‘Maths No Problem’, ‘Read Write Inc’ and ‘Talk for Writing’ approaches to support our teaching in being the best it can be.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a skilled teaching assistant with a passion for inclusion, a consistently positive attitude and the drive to help our most vulnerable young people to succeed.

As a nurturing school, we are keen to recruit staff with a commitment and ability to meet the needs of all children in our community.

What does a typical day look like in this role?

The working day starts at 8:30am with supporting breakfast club, this may involve general supervision or leading a specific activity.

The school day starts at 8:50am, at which time you would meet your key child to complete a start of day activity, such as a visual timetable.

For the first lesson, you may be responsible for leading a small group of around 4 children in English, within the larger class. This group will include your ‘key child’, who is entitled to your support in small group or 1:1 sessions. Or, you may be working 1:1 with your key child.

After break, you would support a similar group in maths, delivering a bespoke session to them.

In the afternoon you may complete some 1:1 interventions/support with your key child or another child with SEND in the phase, whilst supporting the delivery of the foundation curriculum.

The school day finishes at 3:15pm, one day per week you will run a club for a small group of children, and on a Wednesday we get together for staff training after school.

When does the role start?

September the 1st

If I’m still interested, what should I do next?

We think that applying for a new role should always be seen as a two-way process, you have to be right for us, but the school also has to be right for you. So if you are interested in applying, please do feel free to get in touch, come for a look around, or have a chat about the role.

Closing Date: 9am 17th July 2020

Interviews : 22nd July 2020

Manchester Communication Primary Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure for a Regulated Activity via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
