Job overview

Grange Primary School in South Ealing is looking for a teaching assistant to support pupils with additional needs in Year 5. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established and successful mainstream school.   You will be supporting two pupils with Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties, on a 1:1 basis in line with their Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). Both pupils are friendly and demonstrate a desire to learn. Their main areas of difficulty are language, fine and gross motor control, social skills, attention and listening and sensory processing difficulties.  The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, calm, meticulous, caring and professional, with an aspiration to further the child’s learning opportunities and independence. An understanding of, and interest in Cognitive difficulties, Autism and/or Social Communication Difficulties is essential. You will need to be creative with teaching the curriculum to engage and motivate the child, who is keen to learn and is progressing well through school. A level of empathy, patience and positive behaviour strategies are also essential to support the child in their daily school routines.   School and or SEN experience would also be preferable. Moderate Learning Difficulties, Autism or Social Communication Difficulties experience would be ideal but not essential as training will be provided.   The child’s social communication and emotional needs are delayed, but are developing rapidly so both need to be encouraged and supported throughout the school day. Activities and strategies directed by the child’s Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) and external professionals will need to be implemented.  Good communication skills are essential, so lessons and activities can be well-planned as well as a high-level of involvement with the child’s class teacher and parents to discuss progress and daily reports.  Grange Primary is a two minute walk from South Ealing tube station and is a modern well equipped building with friendly and supportive staff and parents.  The school is committed to safeguarding children so the successful candidate will be required to undertake the school safeguarding training and complete an enhanced DBS check.   Job description, person specification and application forms can be found at www.grange.ealing.sch.uk Please send completed application forms to admin@grange.ealing.sch.uk No CVs please  Closing date: 10.12.18 (At Noon 12pm) Interview date: 19.12.18
