Barnhill Community High School is a high-performing school in West London.  Our 2019 academic outcomes place us within the top 10% of schools in the country, with a P8 score of +0.57.  

The school is a diverse community of aspirational students from a variety of backgrounds.  Students of all backgrounds perform very highly at Barnhill due to excellent teaching and excellent levels of pastoral care and support.  Students with a special educational need perform very well and in line with the national average for all students.  

The progress 8 score for SEND students was -0.08 in 2019, far above the national average for the cohort.  Pupil Premium students make excellent progress, with a progress 8 score of +0.48 in 2019. Our EAL students also perform superbly, with a score of +0.95.

The SEND Curriculum Area is a key part of the school’s academic and inclusion ethos.  We have invested heavily to build a team of experts and specialists to work under the SENDCo and provide the best educational support for our students.  The department’s success is founded upon our commitment to enhance the lives of all students through a high quality education.  Our ethos us well represented by the SEN department; ‘together achieving our best’.  

We are now looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic SENDCo to lead the school into the next stage of its journey and raise the educational and life chances of students with SEND.

The successful candidate will be be responsible for:

• Overseeing the day-to-day operation of the school’s SEN policy

• Supporting the identification of children with special educational needs

• Line manage, oversee and support the work of the broader SEND team which includes: Curriculum Leader for Access (bespoke KS3 special needs provision), EAL Co-ordinator, SEND provision specialist and programmes manager, HLTAs and LSAs.

• Co-ordinating provision for children with SEND needs 

• Liaising with parents of children with SEND

• Liaising with other providers, outside agencies, educational psychologists and external agencies

• Work closely with the Examinations Officer to ensure that Exam Access Arrangements are in place for all pupils who qualify for them

• Advising on the deployment of the school’s delegated budget and other resources to meet pupil needs effectively 

• Liaise with the Head and SEND lead for primary schools during transition visits to secure effective transition and provision for KS2 pupils with SEND

• Liaise with relevant persons assigned to local authorities when considering the admission of pupils with EHCPs and be able to make a judgment on the school’s ability to meet pupil’s needs

• Oversee the planning and production of learning strategies and Pupil Passports and their dissemination to all relevant staff

• Contribute to the development and implementation of inclusive practice and quality first teaching throughout the school, including ensuring that appropriate training occurs when necessary. 

• Provide professional guidance to colleagues and work closely with staff, parents and other agencies. Advise on the graduated approach to providing SEND support. 

• Be aware of the provision in the Hillingdon Local offer and work with professionals providing a support role to families to ensure that pupils with SEND receive appropriate support and high quality teaching

• Liaise with the Designated Teacher where a looked after or previously look after child has SEND and attend meetings where appropriate

• Ensure that detailed records are kept for each SEND pupil charting progress made and support given, mapping their provision and progress, across the key stage, in a way which is useful and accessible to other staff. Records stored in line with the GDPR regulations (May 2018)

• Ensuring that the school keeps the records of all pupils with SEN up to date.

• Provide termly reports on SEND outcomes and impact on SEND provision utilising whole school data
