Job overview

The Headteacher and Governors of Layton Primary School are looking to appoint a new SENDCO. Layton Primary School is looking to recruit an individual who is ready to take up the SENDCO position within a large, three-form-entry primary school with 624 pupils on roll. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to lead, learn, and innovate SEND practice across the school.

We are an inclusive school where we ensure children have access to the curriculum alongside their peers within class, for the vast majority of the time. We are looking for an individual who can innovate and develop our practice in SEND and support the practice of staff to ensure children can demonstrate the best of their abilities. Our school supports inclusive practice at every opportunity; the successful candidate will have the opportunity to empower staff and build on their practice across school to ensure our children thrive.

Our school values opinions, promotes individuals’ strengths, and creates opportunities for personal growth. This post represents a superb career opportunity in a modern school with excellent new facilities and technology.

To gain further information, please see the application pack attached which includes a letter from the Headteacher, person specification and job description. Please provide a separate letter, 3 sides of A4 maximum, detailing your education philosophy, and suitability and experience for the role; this is opposed to the final section of the application form.

Informal conversations with the Headteacher are welcomed. We have scheduled a tour of the school on Thursday 26th May at 2pm; please email recruitment@layton.blackpool.sch.uk to book onto the visit or request a telephone conversation with Mr Clucas, Headteacher.

Our school has a relentless focus on securing excellent teaching and learning through a growth mindset. We continually strive and seek out ways to improve what we do and how we do it.

We have high expectations of our pupils, and quality of teaching and learning across the school; our children consistently achieve within the highest 10 – 20% of schools nationally.

In 2017, Layton was judged to be outstanding in all areas by Ofsted. We are an Apple Distinguished school and each child and staff member are provided with technology which is an integrated part of our learning and a seamless part of our teaching and learning.

Layton’s values of resilience, risk taking, resourcefulness, reflectiveness and relationships permeate all our work so that we can ‘grow great minds together’.
