The Board of Trustees wish to appoint a talented and motivated SENDCo to join this fast growing, ambitious and Outstanding Academy from September 2019. As a member of the Extended Leadership Team (on the leadership group spine) and secondary teacher the successful applicant will assume the responsibilities of SENDCo and oversee all aspects of support for pupils with additional needs, including the line-management of our Specialist Resource Provision for ASD. This position would be suited to a candidate with a proven track record of SEND Support and who has experience of the SENDCo role, collaborative leadership and skilled communication. As with all leadership posts, the successful post-holder will also be expected to teach a reduced timetable. The Kingston Academy will provide you with exceptional opportunities for career development and progression.
The successful candidate for this role will join us at an exciting stage in our development. We will have taken possession of our new modern extension with state-of-the-art facilities to house our growing school. The addition of a new Year 7 intake in September 2019 will take total pupil numbers to over 900, whilst our original History Makers, entering in Year 11, will be in the final year of their KS4 studies. In addition, planning for the development of our Sixth Form will be in full flow.
We are looking for a highly experienced teaching professional with a minimum of five years at middle leadership level and considerable SEN experience giving them the knowledge and skills to carry out this pivotal role.
We are not specifying a subject focus, since there is a degree of flexibility over the curriculum specialism of the successful candidate for this role.
Our selection procedure will aim to identify with rigour whether the candidate fulfils the requirements of the post and will include the consideration of the candidate’s suitability to work with children and young people. The process will include:
Teaching an observed lesson to a full class of pupils;
Meeting with a panel of our pupils for informal question and answer session;
Carrying a SENDCo related in-tray exercise;
Interview with Deputy Head and Head Teacher, during which you will be asked to deliver a 10 minute presentation outlining your vision as SENDCo at TKA over the coming 3 years.
We look forward to receiving your application.
You are encouraged to visit the school prior to submitting your application. Our Head Teacher will be happy to meet with you to talk about the school and its ethos and more specifically about this important leadership role.
