Job overview

Full Time, Permanent

With responsibility for coordinating SEND and CLA

To be paid at LP1 £38,598 – LP7 £44,841

Salary will be agreed with the successful candidate dependent on experience.

We are seeking a dynamic, experienced and qualified SENDCo to join our oversubscribed, successful and supportive school. Reflecting the most recent OFSTED judgment for Behaviour and Safety at Horsforth School which was ‘Outstanding’, this post would suit a an ambitious and highly motivated candidate seeking accelerated promotion to a Senior Leadership post.

You will need to draw on experience of raising educational standards (curriculum and/or pastoral experience is essential).  In addition, you will bring real energy and dynamism to the role, alongside a genuine enthusiasm for making a difference. Knowledge of the new SEND Code of Practice 2015 and a proven track record of raising achievement and closing the gap for vulnerable students are essential.

Here at Horsforth School, we aim to create opportunities and support achievement for our students and colleagues alike. As SENDCo, you can expect to play a major strategic role in our development; leading change, coordinating learning support across the school and managing the provision of students with special educational needs and those looked after. You will also have a clear vision of a contemporary personalised curriculum, which challenges all levels of ability. In return, Horsforth School can offer the successful candidate relevant CPD in addition to excellent support both in school, and through our existing membership with: Red Kite Alliance, local SENCo forum and the Area Inclusion Partnership.

If you enjoy a challenge and have the expertise to lead this area of school life, meet the requirements of students with behavioural and learning difficulties, raise standards of language, numeracy and literacy and engage with key stakeholders, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Success is seen throughout our ambitious and consistently oversubscribed 11-19 school, which enjoys strong community and international links. Our commitment to excellence in education is recognised nationally. This can be shown following our recent successful bid for a Post 16 free school. The North West Leeds Sixth Form Centre will be opening alongside Horsforth School and will not only increase opportunities for students but also our colleagues who will be given the opportunity to work across two sites, in other words, there’s never been a more exciting time to join us.

For our 1400 students, Horsforth School provides an engaging environment of discovery and growth. For our colleagues too, this setting offers some great benefits. Located in north-west Leeds, the school is just five miles from the city centre with its thriving retail, leisure and cultural facilities, yet on the edge of open countryside. York, Harrogate and the Dales are within easy reach.
