Job overview

The Role

Lincroft Academy is seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic SENDCO to join our ambitious and inclusive school community.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic, inspirational and highly motivated professional to join the leadership team of Lincroft Academy. The full remit of the post, and the associated renumeration, will be determined by the skills and experience of the successful candidate.

The postholder will be responsible for the leadership of our mainstream SEND provision and will hold a place on the Extended Senior Leadership Team (L5-10). For a candidate with more extensive experience, there is the potential for an Assistant Principal post, adding responsibility for the day-to-day leadership of our Specialist Autism Provision and holding a place on the Core Senior Leadership Team (L11-15).

The core responsibilities include leading the department, supporting and promoting an inclusive culture throughout the school, enabling all students to achieve their best and overcoming barriers to learning and participation.

The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to whole school development of these areas and will be at least a key member of the Extended Leadership Team.

The Department

At Lincroft Academy, our students are at the heart of all that we do. Each and every student is known, valued and supported to achieve their potential, both academically and personally. We are committed to ensuring that all students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and who are otherwise disadvantaged can access an engaging, broad and balanced curriculum. The team you will lead work tirelessly to remove all barriers to learning for all of our most vulnerable students.

It is important that children acquire skills, knowledge and confidence that can be applied to all future learning experiences. We raise aspirations, set high expectations and celebrate the talents and achievements of our students in collaboration with our parents, carers and wider community.

The SENDCO will lead the SEN Team, who are based in The Haven, a dedicated central space that provides personalised and appropriate support to our students on both an individual basis and/or in small groups. The SENDCO leads a team of 11 Teaching Assistants and is supported by a dedicated SEND Administrator.

The Assistant Principal/SENDCO role includes leadership of the Specialist Autism Provision, supporting 28 students who have a primary need of ASC identified on their EHCP. Places in the Specialist Autism Provision at Lincroft are allocated by the local authority. The Specialist Autism Provision has a suite of three specialist classrooms adjacent to the Haven and the two teams of Teaching Assistants work closely together. The Specialist Autism Provision benefits from two full-time Teachers, three Higher Level TAs and a further 9 Teaching Assistants.

Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact us prior to applying and arrange a visit to find out more about our school.

I am very proud to be Principal at Lincroft Academy. Within our vibrant learning community, we share a common goal; to continually strive for excellence. At Lincroft, we maintain exceptionally high expectations and standards in everything we do, ensuring that our students receive the best possible education. We commit to educating, inspiring and supporting our students so that they can become exceptional learners, confident and empowered to make a rewarding contribution to society.

Our curriculum is designed to seamlessly build upon the foundation laid in primary school, preparing our students for post-16 education. High-quality teaching enables our students to achieve very well. Lincroft Academy now has some of the highest performing GCSE outcomes in Bedford and are above the national average. While we take immense pride in our students’ achievements, we remain committed to continuous improvement.

Every child at Lincroft Academy is known, valued and supported to be the best they can be. Our foremost priority is to create a safe and nurturing environment where students thrive. We promote kindness, respect and good manners, just as families do at home, so that our students can become decent adult citizens. Students at Lincroft are well supported through our House System because they work with the same team of staff throughout their Lincroft journey. This system of support fosters belonging, ensures students are known well and strengthens relationships and communication with families. Our comprehensive Inclusion Hub allows us to provide tailored support to students, regardless of their background or needs. Working alongside each other, being supportive and caring is integral to who we are. Our partnership with parents and carers is highly valued and we know that this is an essential part of a positive educational experience for our students.

Our staff are absolutely committed to the education of our students; they are passionate, dedicated and many of them send their children here too. Some of our ex-students now teach here. This speaks volumes about the sense of community at Lincroft. The opportunities provided at Lincroft are broad and many and, even then, continue to grow; from sports to the arts, business and careers – our curriculum extends very much outside the classroom. Our students consistently excel in sports and the arts, enhancing our strong reputation in these areas.

We are proud to be part of Meridian Trust, who look after a total of 30 academies including many in Bedfordshire. We have access to extensive knowledge, expertise and resource, not just at Lincroft, but across the entire Meridian network. This broader community provides our students with additional opportunities and experiences alongside their peers from other academies. This has also opened up investment opportunities to help modernise the school building and facilities.

As a parent of two children myself, I am personally committed to ensuring that the education we deliver at Lincroft is nothing less than I would accept for my own children. Lincroft Academy is a place where every child has the opportunity to realise their potential. We warmly welcome you to our community.

Ms Emma Appadoo

Academy Principal
