Job overview

Teachers at Great Ballard are the backbone of a dedicated team where the education, pastoral care and welfare of the children are paramount. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and ambitious professional who can demonstrate a flexible approach, an ability to work on their own initiative coupled with sensitivity and a commitment to the ethos of the school.  The successful candidate will either be someone currently working with Primary Special Needs who is keen to acquire the knowledge and skills for secondary Special Needs OR someone currently working with Secondary Special Needs who is keen to acquire the knowledge and skills for Primary Special Needs.

The SENDCo will take the lead in developing and implementing effective SEN classroom practice, providing appropriate training for colleagues to ensure that SEN students have a full entitlement to the whole school curriculum.  This aspect of the role will have more priority as the school expands to accept senior pupils from September 2021; the first cohort will sit their GCSE’s in summer 2024.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status 
  • National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination an advantage
  • Experience of working with children with a wide range of SEN
  • Experience of working with external agencies to support the provision of children with SEN
  • An assessor certification for access arrangements is desirable
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development
  • Confident use of ICT.

The successful candidate must be available to start work at the beginning of the Autumn Term on 1st September 2020.
