Job overview

We are seeking an ambitious and inspirational teaching professional (SENDCo/SENCo).  We wish to appoint an exceptional individual who has the necessary skills and attributes to have a real impact upon our SEND provision at The Petersfield School.  Potential is as important as experience, so applications are invited from teachers interested in training in the role as well as colleagues who are already qualified and experienced.

The Petersfield School (TPS) is a heavily over-subscribed, mixed, academy in the desirable market town of Petersfield.  It is a rewarding place to work, with delightful students and staff and an ethos of exceptional student outcomes and an unrivalled student experience.  Ofsted recently judged TPS to be Outstanding in every category.

TPS is part of the highly successful Bohunt Education Trust (Multi Academy Trust).  More information can be found at www.bohunttrust.co.uk.

Our Student Support department has 13 TAs and we are looking at expanding our provisions in line with the Trust from September 2019.  We work with a broad range of students with Education Health Care Plans and Looked After Children and your role would be to liaise directly with all professionals involved.

Are you able to:

• Inspire and innovate?

• Nurture and develop (yourself as well as others)?

• Commit to, and raise further, high achievement and motivation?

• Optimise learning for those with additional needs?

• Lead on quality first teaching strategies across the school

We will:

• Provide a supportive learning environment

• Offer you the opportunity to make a difference

• Actively promote your career development – you may already be targeting a middle leader position and we will support you accordingly

You will need to demonstrate a commitment to and evidence of: success in sustaining academic excellence, helping every child succeed, being an excellent classroom practitioner as well as being able to: work as part of a team, roll up your sleeves and inspire other teachers to excel.

Visits to the school are welcome and for further details please contact John Lodge, Assistant Principal, at jlodge@petersfieldschool.com

The Petersfield School (TPS) is a happy, thriving 11-16 mixed Academy with a commitment to securing exceptional student outcomes and an unrivalled student experience.  Standards, stability and success characterise our successful Academy where over 1300 students thrive in an environment where behaviour is outstanding, relationships are excellent and opportunities are plentiful.

The school joined the highly successful Bohunt Education Trust (BET) Multi Academy Trust in September 2016.  Our BET partner schools are located primarily in Hampshire and we are a community of education professionals whose approach is one which combines the highest expectations with a sensitivity to learners’ individual needs; concentrates on maintaining the very best standards of learning and teaching and takes every opportunity to recognise and reward achievement.  Our ethos is encapsulated by three simple words: enjoy, respect and achieve. (www.bohunttrust.co.uk)

Examination results at TPS are high – consistently well above national averages – and we focus on the individual success of every child.  Our recent student intakes are above the national average and bursting with potential.

Perhaps belying its rather comfortable setting in a peaceful Hampshire market town, TPS is a dynamic, innovative and ambitious school – well known for its developments in curriculum provision, professional development, leadership and student voice.

We have 140 Teachers and Associate Staff who combine effectively as a cheerful, supportive team.  New staff are made to feel very welcome.  Behaviour has been consistently judged to be outstanding by Ofsted and TPS is a school where you can really teach without distraction.  Staff training and new staff induction has been highly commended, with our model adopted by several other local schools.  We have an excellent reputation for the quality of our professional development including for Newly Qualified Teachers.

We currently operate a two year Key Stage 3 (Year 7/8) and a three year Key Stage 4 (Years 9-11).  At age 16 many students move on to our joint Sixth Form provision in Liphook and there are opportunities for staff to teach A-Level there.  Every year, ex-students gain admission to the most competitive Universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Our site is a lovely green campus with dedicated blocks for each subject and we have several state of the art areas including TheStudio@TPS and our floodlit 4G Astroturf pitch.

The school offers students a wide range of extra activities, which staff are happy to organise and attend.  This includes Sport, our specialism of Performing Arts and the Duke of Edinburgh Award where we are the largest centre in Hampshire.  New staff will be expected to make their own contribution to this programme.

Access to Petersfield is swift via the A3(M) or via Petersfield train station which is a short walk away, making it entirely possible to commute comfortably from Surrey in the north or from all points South.

If you would like to join an ambitious, exciting school where teaching is still a joy, we’d like to hear from you.
