We are proud that 59 out of 64 schools are maintained by the Local Authority and we are equally committed to our academies and free schools ensuring that we work in close partnership with all. Through successful joint working arrangements such as the Brighton & Hove Education Partnership, our education and skills team has helped ensure that the city has remained well above the national average in most national academic performance indicators for a number of years. Currently 89.1% of primary schools and 100% of secondary schools are judged good or outstanding by Ofsted. Early Years services are excellent and our levels of NEET are low. In these unprecedented times, we continue to have very high expectations for all our pupils and are working quickly and creatively to support our schools.

Delivering on the statutory responsibilities of school monitoring and intervention within the Local Authority is an important element of the role, in particular supporting schools and overseeing interventions. You’ll also make a significant contribution to the development of the Education and Skills service, collaborating with the Brighton and Hove Education Partnership.

Where necessary, you’ll deputise for the Head of Education Standards and Achievement, as well as manage staff and oversee the provision of specific support in order to secure improvements and enhance our achievements.

You’ll also have a great track record in delivering significant school improvement initiatives and leading teams to achieve the best outcomes. You should have an excellent understanding of school improvement, particularly in the arena of supporting SEND, disadvantaged and BAME students. Skills in contract management and finance are also very important. Communication and teamwork skills alongside creativity, are all vital to success in the role alongside a passion and commitment to education for all.
