Job overview

Do you have a passion for producing amazing food, using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients? Are you creative with your menus, designing them to provide both staple crowd-pleasing dishes whilst also challenging palates with the flavours of the world?

Bradfield College Catering department is seen as the market leader in terms of the quality, standard and the range of food we produce. As an in-house operation, you will have access to the widest range of suppliers you may need to continue the development of our menus, ensuring your creativity is not constrained.

This is not a ‘school dinners’ environment. You will be working with a highly skilled team, whose experience has been gained by working in some of the UK’s best and most prestigious hotels and hospitality venues.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Head Chef to join our kitchen team and to support the Executive Chef with the delivery of over 3000 covers per day, alongside extensive hospitality and events catering.

This is a key role within the department working closely with the Executive Chef and managing the team across two kitchens with the support of dedicated teams within each kitchen.

 Your responsibilities will include:

  • The daily operation of two kitchens and food production relating to our core menu, with a typical combined service of 3000 covers a day to include Breakfast (900), Lunch (1200) and Dinner (900)
  • Working with the Executive Chef on menu planning and innovation
  • You will manage the Senior Chefs in the two college kitchens and guide their personal development and that of the team
  • You will be instrumental in the delivery of the hospitality and events business, both internal functions during term time and other events over school holiday periods such as weddings and residential conferences
  • Full responsibility for food safety throughout the college kitchens

Experience in similar level roles is essential, with a quality background and experience gained from working in high end hotel and restaurant sectors, in addition to experience of volume catering gained in areas such as sports hospitality, private dining, banqueting or large outdoor events.

In return Bradfield College offer a variety of benefits including:

  • Free meal during the working day when College kitchens are open
  • Contributory Pension Scheme
  • Life Assurance Scheme
  • Subsidised membership of the Sports Complex and College Golf Club
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Limited late nights and normal late shift patterns end at 8.30pm (bar a few key college events)
  • Paid overtime if additional shifts are required.
  • Christmas & New Year – the catering department is closed for the seasonal break.

About Bradfield College

Founded in 1850 by Thomas Stevens, and set in the village of Bradfield amidst unspoilt Berkshire countryside, Bradfield College enjoys a well-established reputation for being one of the country’s leading co-educational, independent schools through its provision of academic excellence and a well-rounded education.

The College welcomes pupils from Britain and overseas; the pupil body numbers approximately 770, comprising 480 boys and 290 girls from 13 to 18 years of age.

Boys and girls enter Bradfield at 13+ and many more join the College’s popular and vibrant Sixth Form, where they can choose to study either the IB or A Levels. Faulkner’s, a state-of-the-art boarding house, is specially designed to help all girls and boys make a happy and successful transition from prep school (we recruit from more than 70) to senior school; pupils then move into one of 11 senior houses.

We offer an unrivalled sports and activities programme for all our pupils which ensures that every girl and boy has the opportunity to develop valuable skills outside the classroom, wherever their interests lie.
