We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Senior IT / Resources Technician to join the Resources section of our Information Services Department at Strode's College Sixth Form, Egham, Surrey.

Key Requirements

The successful post holder will be educated to A-level or equivalent. You will have at least two years’ experience within IT support and a good working knowledge of Windows (including 7 / 8 / 10), Microsoft applications (e.g. Office), as well as experience in one or more of the following technologies: Hyper-V; IIS; SCSM; SCCM; DPM; SQL Server; EMC; Meru; Cisco; DNS; DHCP; VLAN; Active Directory; Exchange; Linux; Apple; HP.

You will have exceptional interpersonal skills and telephone manner, able to work under own initiative and believe in the delivery of excellent customer service.

Duties and Responsibilities

You will ensure the smooth running of the IT and Reprographic services, which includes:

  • Assisting with the day-to-day operation of Resources including monitoring and responding to the helpdesk.
  • Providing guidance to the technicians when needed and help organise scheduling of work.
  • Configuring and testing equipment, including hardware, peripherals, software whilst ensuring efficient performance and appropriate default settings.
  • Monitoring the performance of the network infrastructure and diagnose and resolving most software and hardware faults.
  • Providing assistance and support to students and staff on the use of hardware and software within the College.
  • Helping maintain the College Systems documentation.
  • A willingness to work flexibly, sometimes outside of normal core hours, in response to service demands as agreed with the Head of Information Services.

The Information Services Department

The Information Services Department is managed by the Head of Information Services and currently has nine full time and four part time members of staff. The Department is responsible for all the MIS, Exams, IT, AV, Reprographics, Web and Learning Technologies needs of the College.

The Senior IT / Resources Technician is part of the Resources section which focuses on the IT and Reprographics element and reports directly to the Head of Information Services. This means day-to-day work can be quite varied as each subject area has a unique requirement for their needs E.g. CAD software in Design whilst Media has Adobe Premier. We currently have over 60 IWBs, 500 PCs, 25 MACs and around 200 laptops that we support. The College currently runs Hyper-V for our Servers on HP Storage Systems and the infrastructure runs via Fiber to Cisco / HP switches.
