Are you looking to support your local academy? Join us as Senior Premises Officer.

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced individual to assist the overseeing Premises Manager in ensuring the effective management, organisation and supervision of all matters relating to, and all staff involved with, the Academy premises. The role is likely to suit a professional with experience in premises and facilities management and assistance either in a professional building or educational establishment. At Harris Primary Academy Purley Way, you will join a dedicated team of professionals supporting the management of our academy premises. 

Working hours for this role will be 6:30am-1:30pm and 5:30pm-6:30pm, Monday to Friday, 42 weeks per year.

About Us

Harris Primary Academy Purley Way has been open since 2016 and is Ofsted rated 'Outstanding' in all areas. At full capacity there will be 21 classes from Reception to Year 6. We opened with a Reception cohort and are growing by a year group at a time with currently over 350 pupils on roll from Reception to Year 5.

Main Areas of Responsibility

The purpose of your role will be to report to the overseeing Premises Manager in ensuring the effective management, organisation and supervision of all matters relating to, and all staff involved with, the Academy premises. On a daily basis:

  • Supervision and monitoring of work performed by all staff involved in maintaining the Academy in a good state of repair and cleanliness, including cleaning staff. Where necessary produce reports and take responsibility for the organisation and prioritising of the team’s workload.
  • The inspection of premises and the identification of those areas which require attention either in the long or short term.
  • Ensuring that the relevant Health and Safety guidelines are observed in conjunction with the Resources Director, and that immediate action is taken where possible to avoid injury or damage. Inform the overseeing Premises Manager and Office Manager of any defect or actions which may place at risk staff, pupils or visitors to the Academy.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and requirements;
  • Educated to A Level or equivalent;
  • Basic training in one or more of the following; plumbing, general and ground maintenance, electrical/building maintenance, heating systems (or sound experience of same). 
  • Knowledge of the operation of heating, ventilating systems and common causes of malfunctions;
  • Knowledge of maintenance and security systems and procedures 
  • Supervisory skills;
  • Understanding of appropriate cleaning methods and standards
  • At least 2 years’ experience of working in an inner city school or educational establishment with children and young people;
  • Considerable DIY experience

Harris Primary Academy Purley Way is a new academy, which opened in September 2016 as part of the Harris Federation: a London based charity that has more than 20 years’ experience of running successful schools in London. The brand new school opened initially with Reception children and will grow each year.
