Job overview

Derby Diocese currently support 110 church schools within the local authorities of Derby City and Derbyshire.  The Derby Diocese Board of Education established a multi-academy trust in 2014 (Derby Diocesan Academy Trust - DDAT) “to provide the best possible education for the pupils in their care based on the Christian principle that Every Child Matters to God.”

DDAT has been approved by the DfE as an academy sponsor and currently supports schools with an exceptional school improvement strategy.

DDAT aims to:

· provide children with excellent educational provision

· rapidly improve under- performing schools

· develop effective school-to- school support

· build strong relationships and promote work with external partners

· raise aspirations and tackle disadvantage so that no pupil is failed by their school.

Due to recent growth, DDAT require a competent, experienced and enthusiastic Senior School Improvement Officer who will:

a) understand and promote the distinctive character of Church of England Schools;

b) have substantial leadership and management experience within the 5-11 age range at Headteacher level, or from similar duties in a Local Authority. You will need energy and the ability to work in a team that sets itself and schools, high standards – sometimes in challenging circumstances;

c) have a successful track record within your own school and in bringing about school improvement in a variety of other schools that demonstrates your capacity to contribute to the ambition we have that all our schools become outstanding;

d) Have a detailed understanding of what supports and develops the capacity of school leaders to embed ambition and drive improvement in their schools;

e) monitor, deliver and broker support for a number of schools in the Diocese, particularly those within DDAT, to enhance their journey to outstanding;

f) ensure the rapid improvement of Church Schools and Academies deemed to require special measures so that they become at least good at their next Section 5 Inspection;

g) monitor, and where appropriate, support the overall effectiveness of all Church Schools in Derby Diocese;

h) share our ambition for achieving a consistently high quality education for all our children and young people;

i) offer professional support, challenging and intellectual stimulus to our family of schools who have high expectations of our service.

In return, DDAT will offer you a unique opportunity to help establish the Trust as a first class school improvement partner in this area – working with a wide range of large city and small rural schools who form part of a supportive family within the Diocese.
