RQSS is a new bilingual international school in Fuzhou, Southern China. Established with a close relationship with Sedbergh School, UK, the sporting facilities on offer are stunning and a result of substantial investment. In the Senior School these facilities alone include use of a 400m athletics track, 25m swimming pool (with movable floor), 2 x sports halls, dance studio, fully equipped fitness centre, full size astro-turf, tennis courts, squash courts, table tennis centre and a climbing wall. 

These resources are in place to support the school’s central core value of physical activity. Our PE, sports and ECA (extra-curricular activity) programme is accessible to all and tailored to meet the needs of our students. The ambition is to promote lifelong participation in sport and to provide competitive opportunities for all. Someone who can offer exceptional top level sports specialism, in addition to high quality teaching and learning will be well placed to shape RQSS as a regional sporting school of choice.

Opportunities to take a residential role as a tutor, house mistress or house master are available with a reduced teaching commitment.


Main Responsibilities

• Teaching excellent inspiring lessons that enable all learners to make excellent progress;

• Be a positive, professional collegial staff member, with a, ‘can do’, attitude towards making a positive difference to the holistic development of our students;

•Planning and preparing courses and lessons, teaching students, according to their educational needs;

• Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of students;

• Preparing students for examinations and for their next level of study;

• Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual students;

• Identifying and researching resources and equipment required for teaching;

• To participate in the delivery of boarding provision;

• Offer extra-curricular activities to support the ethos and enrichment of the school’s provision. school’s provision;

• Attend Parents’ Meetings, Open Mornings and CPD as required;

• Contribute to positive learning environment at all levels of school life and holistic development of the students;

• Perform additional duties assigned by the Head of Section and Principal.


Specific Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject;

• A recognised teaching qualification for the required age range (e.g. B.Ed., PGCE)

• Minimum two years experience teaching Physical Education in a secondary school or senior independent school setting;

• Previous experience of teaching ESL students is an advantage;

• Sensitivity to the cultural differences found in China and the willingness to develop and maintain a cross cultural approach to work.


Fuzhou is a beautiful city and the school site is in an exciting area of coastal development just 15 minutes from the Fuzhou Changle International Airport. Staff are available to use the on-site sporting facilities and includes a range of staff led clubs which includes tennis and Chinese language. Locally, there are opportunities to participate in rugby, football, golf, yoga and road cycling amongst others.

Sedbergh School (RQSS) is a new bilingual international school which opened in September 2018. We have a very close working relationship with Sedbergh School UK and aim to deliver an exceptional learning environment, providing exciting and holistic education for both Chinese and foreign students. The school currently comprises 10% international and 90% Chinese students, with a projected final capacity of 2,700, with 300 in the Kindergarten. At RQSS we share the core values of Sedbergh School, UK, building on their excellent reputation and over 500 years of history.
